Embracing the Norwegian Wilderness
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can rejuvenate the soul and offer a fresh perspective on life. When I heard about the Yoga & Hiking Retreat in Molde, Norway, I knew it was something I had to experience. Nestled in the heart of Årø, this retreat promised a blend of yoga and hiking amidst some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Arriving in Molde, I was immediately struck by the serene beauty of the fjords and mountains. The air was crisp, and the scenery was nothing short of magical. Our group was warmly welcomed by Pille, our yoga instructor, and Leonie, who assisted with the classes. Their energy was infectious, and I felt an instant connection with the other participants.
The retreat began with a sunrise hike to Varden, offering panoramic views of the Molde Panorama. The gentle ascent was a perfect introduction to the week’s adventures, and the morning yoga session that followed was invigorating. Practicing Hatha-like yoga in the fresh morning air set a positive tone for the day, and I felt my body and mind aligning with the natural rhythm of the surroundings.
A Journey of Self-Discovery
Each day of the retreat was a new adventure, with guided hikes leading us through lush forests, past cascading waterfalls, and up majestic mountains. Despite the occasional rain, our spirits remained high, and the walking poles I brought along proved invaluable. The hikes were challenging yet rewarding, offering moments of reflection and awe at the stunning vistas that unfolded before us.
One of the highlights was our hike to the Atlantic Road, where we paused to practice yoga by the sea. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks provided a soothing backdrop as we moved through our poses. It was a moment of pure tranquility, and I felt a deep sense of connection with nature.
Leonie and Pille’s guidance extended beyond the physical practice of yoga. They introduced us to meditation sessions by the sea, allowing us to delve deeper into the philosophy of yoga. These moments of stillness and introspection were a welcome respite from the physical exertion of the hikes, and I found myself gaining new insights into my own journey.
Nourishing the Body and Soul
No retreat would be complete without nourishing meals, and Paula, our talented cook, ensured we were well-fed with delicious breakfasts, dinners, and picnic lunches. Her culinary creations were a delightful fusion of local flavors and wholesome ingredients, providing the energy we needed for our daily activities.
The accommodation was comfortable and well-organized, offering a cozy haven to return to after a day of exploration. Evenings were spent in the company of fellow participants, sharing stories and laughter over dinner. The sense of community was palpable, and I cherished the meaningful conversations we had about life, yoga, and everything in between.
As the week drew to a close, I found it hard to say goodbye to the friends I had made and the beautiful landscapes that had become my temporary home. The retreat had been a transformative experience, leaving me feeling revitalized and inspired. I left Molde with a renewed sense of purpose and a promise to return, whether to Norway, Estonia, or Alaska, for another retreat with Pille and her incredible team.
