Ha Giang - Situated in the picturesque northern region of Vietnam, Ha Giang City serves as the enchanting starting point of the famous Ha Giang Loop. As a lively urban center and the capital of Ha Giang Province, it warmly welcomes travelers beginning their multi-day journey from Hanoi to discover the province’s stunning natural landscapes, rich ethnic diversity, and fascinating culture.
Quan Ba Heaven Gate - Ascending through the Quan Ba Pass, travelers will encounter the Twin Mountains, also known as the Fairy Mountains. These two hills resemble a pair of breasts and have inspired numerous local legends and tales. The Quan Ba Pass itself provides a viewpoint for some of the most breathtaking vistas along the journey.
Yen Minh - Set amidst the rugged terrain of Ha Giang province, Yen Minh acts as a portal to some of Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring scenery and diverse ethnic cultures. Whether exploring the renowned Ha Giang Loop or engaging with local markets and homestays, this expansive district offers a deep dive into Vietnam’s lesser-known yet profoundly beautiful northern frontier.
Yen Minh - Lung Cu - Dong Van
Dinh Vua Meo - The Hmong King’s Palace is a two-story wooden mansion that provides a fascinating glimpse into the history of the Hmong people. The building itself is an architectural wonder, and the artifacts inside narrate stories of a bygone era.
Lung Cu - Lung Cu Flag Tower in Ha Giang is a symbolic emblem of Vietnam, marking the country’s northernmost point near the Chinese border. This landmark offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, countryside, and even the peaks of China. Lung Cu is celebrated not only for this landmark but also for its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant ethnic minority villages, and genuine cultural experiences.
Dong Van - Concluding this segment of the loop is Dong Van Old Quarter, a marketplace that transports visitors back in time. With its cobblestone streets, antique shops, and lively local atmosphere, the Old Quarter offers an authentic glimpse into life in this remote part of Vietnam.
Dong Van - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Nho Que River - Cao Bang
Ma Pi Leng Pass - The Ma Pi Leng Pass is the most remarkable mountain pass in Vietnam, standing at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is situated between Dong Van and Meo Vac, two cities in the far north of Vietnam in Ha Giang province, near the Chinese border. It is the most stunning mountain road in all of Vietnam.
It runs along the paved national road 4C, known as “The Happiness Road.” The road was constructed in the 1960s by numerous workers, primarily ethnic minorities from the region. It took 11 years to complete the entire road.
It is renowned as the King of Vietnamese mountain passes. The route is lined with cliffs and abysses, with enough hairpin bends to make one dizzy. The road along the mountainside offers a romantic, breathtaking landscape ideal for motorcycling. The ascent to the top, often called “the Great Wall of Vietnam,” feels like a scene from a fairy tale.
Nho Que River - Flowing at the base of the Ma Pi Leng Pass, the Nho Que River enhances the area’s enchanting beauty. Descend to the river and embark on a boat trip through the majestic canyon, surrounded by towering cliffs.
Cao Bang - Cao Bang promises an epic adventure for travelers seeking breathtaking scenery, with Ban Gioc Waterfall as its highlight, along with stunning landscapes and cultural experiences. The region is perfect for adventure travel, hiking, and experiencing authentic local life, with the Cao Bang Loop being a popular way to explore the remote areas. The best times to visit are the autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) months for pleasant weather and vibrant landscapes.
Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Nguom Ngao Cave - Khuoi Ky Stone Village
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - Ban Gioc Waterfalls is one of the grandest and most captivating waterfalls in Vietnam. Located in Dam Thuy Commune, about 335 kilometers from Hanoi, the fall lies on the border between China’s Guangxi and Vietnam’s Cao Bang.
Nguom Ngao Cave - Situated just 5 kilometers from the renowned Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave is a natural marvel that offers a glimpse into the fascinating geological history of northern Vietnam. This cave, also known as Tiger Cave, is a delightful extra stop for travelers visiting the nearby waterfall.
Truc Lam Pagoda - Nestled in the stunning region of Cao Bang, just 500 meters from the famous Ban Gioc Waterfall and near the Chinese border, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda offers not only a spiritual retreat but also breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The pagoda, perched on Phia Nham Mountain, provides a vantage point to admire the cascading waters of Ban Gioc and the lush paddy fields and towering mountains that frame the area.
Khuoi Ky Stone Village - Khuoi Ky community-based tourism village is located on provincial road No. 206, only 2km from the famous Ban Gioc waterfall. The village was established between 1594 and 1677 when the Mac dynasty relocated from Thang Long to Cao Bang province.
The road leading to the village is paved with cobblestones. The village is currently home to 16 Tay ethnic households and 14 stone-built houses on stilts, constructed in the 16th century.
The houses in the village are surrounded by stone fences, which have existed for hundreds of years. In an area of about 10,000m2, 16 houses in Khuoi Ky stand together, symbolizing the strong bond between families. The remaining area of the village is used for agricultural cultivation.
The custom of building stone houses stems from the Tay people’s belief in the worship of the Stone God. They believe that the Stone God possesses strong natural powers that can protect them and bless them with a peaceful life.
Ban Gioc - Handicraft Villages - Angel Eye Mountain - Cao Bang - Hanoi
Phuc Sen Forging Village - Phuc Sen forging village of the Nung An is located at the foot of Pác Rằng mountain, about 40 km from Cao Bang city on the way to Ban Gioc, one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Vietnam. Approximately 150 forges are constantly operating to produce durable farm tools.
Mắt Thần Nui - Nui Thung mountain, also known as Angel Eye mountain, remains a relatively unknown destination, just 30 km from Cao Bang City and 70 km from Ban Gioc waterfall. It is not only the mountain that is worth a day trip, but the entire area, with Thang Hen Lake, villages, mountains, and rice fields, all located in a hidden valley called Tuyet Tinh Coc.
