Additional Information

Situated at an impressive 10,500 ft above sea level, the Yanacocha Reserve is a lush high-altitude cloud forest sprawled across 964 hectares. It is a haven for various bird species, especially rich in hummingbirds. The Black-breasted Puffleg, an endangered species nearly lost to habitat destruction, also finds sanctuary here. This reserve was set up by the Jocotoco Foundation, a renowned conservation organization in Ecuador, in the early 1990s. It has since become a must-visit for nature buffs, birding enthusiasts, and photographers.

Despite its tranquil charm and astonishing biodiversity, it’s hard to believe the reserve is just an hour’s drive from the city! You can also delight in a hearty lunch at the on-site restaurant.

Be a part of the noble cause of conservation by taking a trip to this enchanting reserve that actively combats threats of agricultural conversion and other forms of habitat degradation.

See Yanachocha with one of the very best! Neotropical Nature & Birding - Neotropical Nature and Birding led by Santiago Salazar provided us with one of the very best experiences we could have had at Yanachocha Reserve in Ecuador. Santiago has a wealth of experience guiding. He knows exactly when, where, and how to find birds! In addition Santiago is very interesting and pleasant to spend time with. We are very grateful to have had such a fine day together in an amazingly beautiful place.
