Highlights
  • Casa Museo Guayasamin - This tour will start at your hotel at 9:00 am, we will take you to Guayasamin Museum located at Bellavista hill (Quito’s Natural Viewpoint).
Oswaldo Guayasamin was the most important painter from XX Century, he worked all over the world and started his own collection that later he opened as a museum.
By now there is an special building that was his dream for many years, it is well known as la Capilla del Hombre, where some of his work is exposed. Unfortunately, he only saw the starting of his dream because he died at the US before the building was finished. In simple words this place is the best modern art and contemporary museum in Ecuador.

After this visit we can add a delicious lunch in a local restaurant (please, let us know in advance).

  • Banco Central del Ecuador - Then, we will visit another wonderful museum in Quito called Central Bank, it has a complete route, from the vestiges of the first inhabitants of Ecuador until the contemporary and modern art expositions.

In this first archaeological room there are pieces of pre-Inca cultures exposed: basic tools of stone and obsidian that are replaced with the most elaborate stone and ceramic utensils over time. From this period, very elaborate pieces are exhibited, especially ceramic.

The Spanish conquest will come, so the next room talks about Quiteña Art school developed by locals and Spaniards . This was the time of great artistic production, creating a syncretism between the Spanish Catholic and the mythical indigenous.

The next and final exhibition refers the republican art, the reflection of a time of political changes and struggles for independence. This is a great museum to learn more about the Ecuadorian history by art.

Finally we will take you back to your hotel

A remarkable cultural experience in Quito! - This tour was amazing! A great overview of cultural Quito with an outstanding tour guide: Josué! In the tour, I added an extra visit to the Middle of the World Monument, and it was quite difficult to beat Josué in the "egg-stading challenge in Equator"! The visit to the Guaysamin House-Museum and "Capilla del Hombre" was a true highlight! The place is amazing, with so many beautiful paintings and other art items! And from there, we have a great view of Quito! Josué was a friendly and awesome guide, with him I was able to learn more about Ecuatorian culture and live. I highly recommend this tour to whomever is travelling to Quito!

A spectacular cultural tour in Quito! - This tour was amazing! I added a visit to the Middle of the World Monument to the Museum Tour. It was a whole day of adventure and learning about Ecuatorian culture. Middle of the World site is incredible! I just had some difficulty in putting an egg standing there, but at the end I could do it! Guayasamin museum is outstanding, a true must-see in Quito. The house and "Capilla del Hombre" are worth spending at least 2 hours! Josué was an excellent guide, with his explanations I could know more about Ecuador! With him, I felt like I was doing a sightseeing with a local friend! I highly recommend this tour to whomever is visiting Quito!

Fabulous experience for us! - We could not have had a better experience visiting museums than with our tour guide Alejandro Jacome. Guide Ecuador. CEO . He is an extremely knowledgeable and personable guide- who was very enthusiastic we had chosen the 2 museums in Quito which were his favorites as well. The museum in the “Banco Centrale “ was loaded with treasures of the pre Colombian people. Anything from pottery to jewelry to gold artifacts. We saw many items from different eras and paintings as well from more recent times. A chronology of the people’s times by centuries. We also had the opportunity to visit another museum in the same building- the Etnografica Museo. Paintings from modern times to old pottery relics, musical instruments through the ages and so much more. Children were there on a class trip to learn as well! We had time for lunch w Alejandro in a tourist area, then on to visit the museum and home of the famous Guayasmin- a prolific and powerful painter of the 20th century. His paintings are big and emotional. Some hard to look at -many are amazing and full of feeling and excitement. A visit here includes a look into his home and studio too. Anyone visiting Quito that has an interest in art should visit this museum. Alejandro has a special fondness for Guayasmin as his grandmother was a teacher at a school down the street from the artists home. Alejandro met the painter quite a few times growing up. In and out of school. He had an insight into the painter that is very unique. Alejandro is a gem- and anyone getting him as a guide will be very luck indeed.
