Great experience! - We loved this tour! Our 15 year old son said he liked this more than snorkeling earlier in the day! Our tour guide, Angel, was funny, personable, and kind. We loved it! And the homemade tortillas were fire. So good. But the chocolate was the. Bomb. Loved getting a small glimpse at Mayan and even Mexican culture for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful experience - What a beautiful place they have created, a lot of detail and intention was put into place. Our guide was very informative and she walked us through sharing so much with us. This is great for kids and anybody interested in cacao and the process of creating chocolate. As a cacao enthusiast I was impressed with this entire experience.

Very worthwhile!! - This tour was a highlight of our trip. Pati was very knowledgeable and gave our family a deep appreciation for the Mayan culture. The chocolate that we make was amazing. The smell of the crushed coca is my new favorite aroma!!

A history lesson and chocolate! - A great quick tour. Patty was our guide and was very knowledgeable. The presentation video was not working so she had to do the presentation- I don’t think the video could beat her presentation. Highly recommend the tour.

History on the tongue - History and the present come together in the tasting of chocolate at the live demonstration. Our tour bus guide led us through the small history display. A lively factory guide demonstrated how chocolate was developed as a food. Angel truly enjoys his work! I wish we'd had more time to explore the shop and taste the chocolates. This is not a theme park in the way Hershey is, but they share the same spirit of fun and play and beauty in their surroundings.

Fun, educational stop! - This was a fun stop. We learned the history of chocolate harvesting and got to sample cacao similar to how it was originally prepared.

Nice tour, interesting information, but not a factory or plantation - It was a fun tour we decided to do during our port day of our cruise. They share lots of interesting facts about how coco beans are grown and the history of its importance. Our guide was fun and entertaining. But this is really just a roadside museum/tour. It isn't a plantation where its grown, you don't see anything being grown, harvested or processed. The closest you get is when the guide makes chocolate sauce using a stone press -- which is cool, the kids liked that, and surprisingly the chocolate she made was very tasty. The entire tour lasted just under an hour. Then you come out into a store where you can try all the different flavors and buy. It's expensive, $9-$10 per bar. Some parts of the tour felt a little slow, but overall the family (ages 10 - 70) liked it. You are inside or in the shade most of the time, so heat isn't a factor. I think it's a good option if you happen to be in the area or passing by, but it's probably 45-50 minutes from the cruise port, so you will take up a big chunk of your day going there and back, and there isn't much else around this to do. So plan your day accordingly. Average rating mainly due to the distance away from other attractions and the fact that you don't actually see or experience anything related to how it's grown or harvested or processed.
