Really great tour but palm oil plantations are bad for ecosystem - Our tour guide Memo was very knowledgeable and had interesting things to say .
We do feel like the tour needs to bring light the fact that Palm Oil is bad for the Costa Rican ecosystem

A vacation highlight - This is a great tour. Relaxing, informative, and the scenery is stunning. Swimsuits are not needed, and it’s an easy, comfortable boat ride for all ages.
The experience was well paced. We started with about 30 minutes touring the farm beforehand, which was absolutely beautiful. It’s covered in bright flowers and incredibly well kept. We were there during the dry season and it was still lush, gorgeous, and spa-like. After that, we spent roughly 2.5 hours on the boat exploring the mangroves, followed by a delicious snack at the end.
We went in the morning, and the temperature was perfect. I think an afternoon tour might be too hot. There were a few bugs, but honestly far fewer than we’re used to back home in Louisiana. I was not wearing bug spray and did fine.
The boat has an optional canopy. They typically leave it open to make wildlife spotting easier, but if you prefer more shade, they can put it up partially or fully.
Our tour guide, Memo, was the highlight. He was incredibly knowledgeable and excellent at spotting animals, but what impressed me most was how genuinely passionate he is about the mangrove ecosystem and its preservation. He was legitimately giddy at times during the tour — and that kind of enthusiasm can’t be faked.
What really stood out was how engaged he was with everyone in our group, especially the kids. He paid attention to what people were interested in and tailored the experience on the fly. For example, one of the kids loves lizards, so Memo made sure to point out every “Jesus Christ” lizard we passed. Another guest was really into birds, and Memo happily spent extra time helping us spot different species. He was very easy to understand and made the entire tour fun and interactive for all ages.
Another thing we appreciated is that wildlife sightings are completely natural. It did take a little while to find the monkeys (nature is going to nature!), but Memo was patient and persistent. He does not feed the monkeys (which we respected) so they don’t automatically swarm the boats. The tour even ran a bit long because he kept working to help us find them, and we ultimately did. We really appreciated his commitment to ethical wildlife practices.
Wildlife overall was fantastic. We saw monkeys, a sloth, lots of “Jesus Christ” lizards, many beautiful birds, and other creatures throughout the mangroves.
Also noteworthy was the meal after the tour. We had the option of traditional beans, rice, and eggs or fresh fruit. We had one of each and everything was fresh and delicious.
We were there with children ranging from ages 3 to 13, and it was very family friendly. I recommend bringing plenty of water and a little snack for the kids in case they start getting antsy before the end of the tour.
Highly recommend — especially if you’re looking for a relaxing, educational nature tour for all ages.

Amazing tour, amazing guide! - The mangrove boat tour was even better than we imagined! Our guide Francisco was amazing! He was so knowledgeable about all the animals and plants, including the different types of mangroves and other trees. He also gave us a very informative explanation of the uniqueness and importance of the mangrove forests.
Francisco was amazing at spotting the local fauna. We saw a sloth, capuchin monkeys, basilisks, iguanas, a raccoon, blue heron, and more. I would highly recommend him for a tour. He was a step above the typical guides!

The best activity we did in Costa Rica - We saw so much wildlife and learned so much about CR and the local flora and fauna that we didn't feel the need to go to the national park. Our tour guide, Memo, besides being hilarious, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his home country and conservation efforts. The food at the end was delicious, and we got a treat when the Capuchin monkeys came to the lodge to give us quite a show. I highly recommend this tour company and our amazing guide, Memo.
