Exploring Quebec City’s Craft Beer Culture: A Journey Through St-Roch

As a travel writer with a love for urban exploration, the Quebec City Brewery Tour was a must-do. Promising a deep dive into the city’s craft beer culture, it offered a perfect blend of history, culture, and exceptional brews. Join me as I recount this unforgettable adventure.

A Stroll Through St-Roch: The Heart of Quebec City’s Craft Beer Scene

As a former city planner turned travel writer, I have a penchant for exploring urban landscapes and uncovering hidden gems. So, when I heard about the Quebec City Brewery Tour, I knew it was a must-do on my itinerary. The tour promised a deep dive into the craft beer culture of Quebec City, and it delivered in spades.

The adventure began at Noctem Artisans Brasseurs, a modern brewery nestled in the vibrant St-Roch neighborhood. This area, with its eclectic mix of old-world charm and contemporary flair, is a testament to the city’s evolving identity. As we sipped on our first samples, including the Saison style Hebalsphie and the Milk Stout Moloko Plus, our guide Samuel regaled us with tales of the brewing process. His passion for beer was infectious, and his knowledge was as refreshing as the brews we tasted.

The walk between breweries was a journey in itself. St-Roch, anchored by the majestic Église Saint-Roch, is a neighborhood on the rise. Its streets are lined with a mix of historic buildings and trendy new establishments, making it a perfect backdrop for our beer adventure. Each step brought us closer to the next brewery and deeper into the heart of Quebec City’s craft beer scene.

Distinctive Brews and Delightful Company

Our next stop was La Barberie, a traditional brewery with a rich history. As the second oldest craft brewery in Quebec City, it has a reputation for producing unique and flavorful beers. Here, we sampled a Belgian Witbier Blanche Miel Et Agrumes and a Stout Double Chocolat, among others. Each sip was a testament to the brewery’s commitment to quality and innovation.

What made this tour truly special was the camaraderie among the participants. While most of my fellow tourists were local residents, they were incredibly welcoming and eager to share their love for craft beer. Conversations flowed as freely as the beer, and I found myself learning not just about the brews, but also about the local culture and community.

Samuel, our guide, was a font of knowledge. Fluent in both French and English, he navigated the tour with ease, ensuring everyone felt included and engaged. His insights into the brewing techniques and the history of each brewery added depth to the experience, making it both informative and fun.

A Perfect Ending at La Korrigane

Our final destination was La Korrigane, an upscale brewery known for its innovative flavors. Here, we were treated to the Klorofyl IPA, infused with cucumber and mint, and the Kraken IPA, among others. The beers were paired with snacks like popcorn and pretzels, creating a delightful tasting experience.

As the tour came to a close, I reflected on the day’s adventures. The Quebec City Brewery Tour had exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and, of course, exceptional beer. It was a reminder of why I love exploring urban landscapes and discovering the stories they hold.

For anyone visiting Quebec City, this tour is a must. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in the local craft beer scene, meet passionate brewers, and explore a neighborhood that’s as dynamic as the beers it produces. Cheers to new experiences and unforgettable memories!
