The Qobustan National Museum offers a glimpse into the history of the first settlers of these lands. The reserve boasts over 6,000 rock engravings dating back 5,000 to 40,000 years. The site also includes remnants of inhabited caves, settlements, and burials, showcasing the area’s extensive human activity during the wet period following the last Ice Age.
- Mud Volcanoes - Azerbaijan is also renowned for its Mud Volcanoes, which are quite rare globally. Visitors will have the opportunity to see these volcanoes near the Qobustan Museum. Due to the poor road conditions leading to the Mud Volcanoes, transportation will switch to Soviet-era Lada cars, offering an exciting safari adventure.
- Ateshgah - Fire Temple - This is one of Azerbaijan’s most extraordinary sights. Historical sources indicate that before the Indian Temple of Fire was built in Surakhani at the end of the 17th century, locals worshipped at this site due to the presence of “seven holes with burning flames.”
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Yanar Dag is a natural gas fire that burns continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, a country known as “the Land of Fire.” Flames shoot up to 3 meters (9.8 ft) from a thin, porous sandstone layer.
