Highlights
  • Cabo Blanco - We will meet in Montezuma’s adorable “downtown” for bike fitting & safety check. We provide the mountain bikes and helmets (we carry the tools). Then we’ll gently roll out together on our awesome signature route. It’s relatively flat, follows the coastline, but we will pull out at a few of our “secret spots”.

Experienced guide and longtime cyclist Marla will be leading the ride. If desired, she can stop occasionally to point out interesting stuff, offer riding tips (if you like) and otherwise customize your experience to make it memorable. Of course, the group always stays together!

As we head back to Montezuma, we can grab a couple cool pictures… and maybe even grab a cold one together to cap off a great ride!

You will get to see a special slice of Costa Rica’s finest: beautiful rugged beaches, hidden world class surf breaks, ancient tropical trees, and secret waterfalls.

What's Included
  • Use of bicycle included.
  • Helmet provided (optional).
Additional Information

The Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica ranks among the five ‘Blue Zones’ of the world where inhabitants notably lead longer, healthier lives.

Our journey covers around 15 km as we maneuver the coastlines and hills close to the Montezuma town through biking - one of the most nature-friendly and exhilarating ways of commuting. We’ll primarily traverse rocky and gravel terrains with a mix of singletracks and rock outcrops.

Moreover, a two-time world champion and ex-professional mountain biker who’s a seasoned resident will guide the ride. He will help you spot numerous hidden gems and wildlife frequently overlooked by visitors.

  • Riders will be sitting on a standard bicycle saddle for two hours.
Location
Estación de buses de Montezuma
Ruta Nacional Treciaria 624
We meet at the sand volleyball court, next to the free Montezuma Parking Lot, on the oceanside, across road from the soccer field.

Unique experience - Excellent tour! We rode along the coast and visited some “off the beaten path” spots, including one pretty and refreshing waterfall. We were the only ones there.

Great way to start our trip. - We did a morning tour with Marla and her daughter on our first full day in Montezuma and had a great time. Saw so much of the area, Marla timed the ride right do we got to ride out to Cabuya island. Saw monkeys, met some cool people, visited the giant Higueron tree. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Montezuma.

The best part of our honeymoon - My husband and I signed up for this tour while on our honeymoon in Costa Rica. It was our favorite part! In just a few hours, we saw an island that's witnessed a few shipwrecks, an ancient tree, an off-the-beaten-path brewery, and some acrobatic monkeys. If you're looking for a bit of adventure while learning about the history and culture of the area, this is the tour for you. Marla was a lovely, skilled, chill human to spend a few hours riding with in Montezuma.

Fun and Informative Bike Ride - I was looking for something else fun do to do in Montezuma besides the waterfall and this bike ride turned out to be a great choice. Marla was a great host and very knowledgeable of the area. This would be a great thing to do at the beginning of your stay in Montezuma because Marla shares tons of great suggestions on extra hiking, surfing and snorkeling spots. I would also recommend contacting Marla before if you are flexible on the time so you can do the bike ride on the land bridge out to the island during low tide.

Great family activity with an amazing human! - We had an awesome time with Marla. She was warm, encouraging and knowledgeable, and with her amazing pro biking history, and cool humility, was immediately admired and respected by our tween and teen boys ( and us!). The ride was beautiful - along the coastal track, over rocks jutting into the ocean, visiting a beautiful river and an ancient tree, brilliant for climbing. Marla encouraged us to try challenges ( our kids), but supported us in taking the easy option (me!), and it was a great balance of exhilarating and relaxing. Marla is a brilliant role model, and a lovely person and this trip will be one of the much talked about highlights of our holiday in Costa Rica.

Great Mountainbike Tour !! - We had an awesome time on our bikes thanks to Marla who really adapted the ride to our skill level. During the ride we visit Marla pointed out some very nice places/spots which we would not be able to find ourselves normally. We really enjoyed and it was a really awesome ride!

Highlight of our trip - My wife and I were looking for something a little more active and adventurous for our last day in Montezuma, and this was a perfect fit (and excellent value). The mountain bikes were nice, and we took a scenic tour south down along the coast-line, all the way to Cabo Blanco national park. It was mostly flat, but between the little hills, Marla's "bonus sections" and just the excitement of taking it all in, we arrived back in town ready for a big meal! We plan on doing this again on our next visit, maybe attempt one of the longer tours ;)

Fantastic Tour - We had a fabulous time from beginning to end, and our guide Marla really curated the ride route according to our skill level (total beginners). We traveled along the amazing coastline, and stopped at a few hidden spots which included a dip in a crystal clear river. We were also lucky to tour during low tide, so we rode the "land bridge" to Cabyua island. We had to hurry back before the waters rose, so there was plenty of adventure for our two teenagers!
