Dolphins, Monkeys, and Island Bliss: A Day with Coco’s Tours
When the opportunity to explore Tortuga Island with Coco’s Tours came up, I couldn’t resist. The promise of dolphins, monkeys, and a day on the water was too enticing for this ocean-loving surfer to pass up.
Setting Sail on a Smaller Vessel
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I boarded the boat for the Tortuga Island Adventure. As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but this was a different kind of journey. The boat was smaller than the typical tour vessels, which immediately made the experience feel more intimate and personal. I could feel the gentle sway of the ocean beneath us, and the anticipation of spotting dolphins in the Gulf of Nicoya was palpable.
As we cruised through the waters, the guide shared stories of the region’s history, including a fascinating tale of a World War II shipwreck. The smaller boat allowed us to get closer to the dolphins, and seeing them leap and play in the water was nothing short of magical. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place. The connection to nature was undeniable, and I felt a sense of peace that only the sea can provide.
A Close Encounter with Nature
Our next stop was Negritos Island, where we hoped to catch a glimpse of the elusive spider monkeys. The island is a biological reserve, and the monkeys live there in their natural habitat. As we approached, the guide pointed out the lush greenery and the sounds of the jungle that surrounded us. It was a stark contrast to the open ocean, and I was eager to explore this new environment.
The monkeys were playful and curious, swinging from the trees and chattering amongst themselves. It was a rare opportunity to see these creatures up close, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder at the diversity of life in this part of the world. The guide’s knowledge and passion for the area were evident, and it added a layer of depth to the experience that I truly appreciated.
Island Bliss and Unexpected Surprises
Finally, we arrived at Tortuga Island, a paradise of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. Before we set foot on the island, we had the chance to snorkel in the vibrant underwater world. The marine life was abundant, and I found myself mesmerized by the colorful fish and coral that surrounded me.
After snorkeling, we were treated to a delicious lunch on the beach, complete with tropical fruits and refreshing drinks. The hospitality of Coco’s Tours was exceptional, and they even surprised us with a visit to a floating restaurant. Eating at sea was a unique experience, and the calm waters made it all the more enjoyable. I even made a new furry friend, a playful puppy that I couldn’t resist spending time with.
As the day came to an end, we returned to the mainland, where the team continued to show their incredible hospitality. They offered us a place to freshen up and even provided a ride back to our accommodation. It was a day filled with adventure, relaxation, and unexpected delights, and I left with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
