Guadiana - We enter the Spanish-Portuguese fluvial border along the imposing Guadiana River. We pass between Villarreal de Santo Antonio with its peculiar Pombalina architecture and Ayamonte, a mixture of pipes and elevated areas as its name suggests.
The price is per vehicle, not per passenger, and 1 or 2 people can go per motorcycle.
- Lifejacket provided
We embark on our journey from Marina Isla Canela out into the sprawling sea. We cruise along the Isla Canela coastline and immerse ourselves in the utopian pleasure of taking a dip among the fine sandy islands of Isla Canela, colloquially known as ‘golas’, which are visible only during the ebb. We then traverse the Spanish-Portuguese river boundary via the majestic Guadiana River. As we pass under the striking bridge that binds Spain and Portugal, it feels like a voyage back in time. Subsequent to the villages of Guerreiros do Río and Foz de Odeleite, Alcoutim and Sanlúcar del Guadiana materialize in the horizon like twin sentinels amidst a cluster of moored sailboats. On the homeward route, we navigate at full throttle through the tranquil Guadiana waters and ease into the Caño de La Canela, beholding its fishing hamlet and a wide array of indigenous flora and fauna. Following an amusing ride through the marshlands, Isla Cristina and our homeport Marina Isla Canela miraculously come into view.
