Great dive experience - Great laid back dive experience with SSI and PADI trained staff. Hotel pick up was great and comfortable with Franklin and diving was great with Jilberto who took great care of us. My daughter adored her first dive experience off a boat in the shallow local reef. Any problems were solved and we had a great experience and booked again. Thanks so much and really recommend this small local business.

Amazing Introductory Lesson - My 18 y.o. daughter and I decided on a last-minute scuba dive excursion. This was my second time diving and my daughter's first. Booking was a breeze thanks to their prompt replies to my emails. Arranged transportation to/from the resort was great (they have their own driver). The scuba lesson itself was amazing! George was our instructor for just the two of us, and he was very patient and kind. His main priority was that we were comfortable and had a pleasant experience. We were given plenty of time to get used to breathing underwater with a lesson right by the boat. My ears have a tendency to hurt when I dive, and George gave us plenty of time to descend slowly using a rope. If our ears hurt, we used the signal George taught us to use. He would have us stop and try various methods to clear our ears. He was constantly checking to see that we were okay. Once we were at our maximum depth, George led us on a swim. He pointed many fish out to us, including a passing stingray and squid that had just inked. If you are interested in booking a scuba lesson while you are in Punta Cana, I highly recommend Grand Bay of the Sea. They were superior to other snorkeling and scuba tour companies I have booked.

Very kind and lots patience - I can not say enough positive things about them. We were a family of four who have never scuba dived before. The instructors were so kind and compassionate. My sister and youngest daughter adapted with no issues and an instructor showed them a very good time. Showing them many cool things on the sea floor and beautiful fish. My oldest daughter and I had a panic attack before we even put our face in the water. Our instructor spent a very long time getting us acclimated to the whole process and would not let us give up on ourselves. He stayed by our side the entire process and literally held our hands the entire way. He allowed us to descend down at our own pace and we never felt rushed or unsafe. I can not thank the entire staff for the kindness and compassion you showed. I definitely would do it again and would recommend it to anybody.

Experienced excellent dive professionals - Two of my sons got certified here this week and my husband and I accompanied them to snorkel. The whole staff was excellent but Kelvin and Gilberto went well above and beyond to make our experience amazing. They were extremely experienced and knowledgeable about diving and the sites. They are both really patient and encouraging teachers. My sons were so lucky to have such great teachers, they feel confident and excited for their next dive tomorrow. We highly recommend this dive shop and these diving Masters/Instructors! My sons saw a turtle and a lion fish on their first day diving, the reefs are really vibrant and healthy, we will be back to dive and snorkel with Grand Bay of the Sea hopefully often!

Family dive - The diving center was close to our hotel, We met Franklin and his team, very sympatic, competent, willing to share the passion for diving in a simple way. Our children passed their Open water certificate with Franklin; We liked his pedagogy and his kindness. Then we really enjoyed to dive in family ! Franklin guided us in 2 dives at Cabeza de Toro, and 2 wonderful dives at Isla Catalina : The Wall and The Aquarium, just gorgeous !! The expedition was also really fun ! Thank you guys ! We had a great time with you and hope to dive with you again !!

The best diving school un Punta Cana - I would highly recommend diving with them, from the first moment I felt like part of the team, the instructors are very patient and they are very clear when they give explanations and plan the diving. Apart from learning a lot about diving, you will have a great time with them because they are very funny. Definitely the best dominican diving school in Punta Cana

Irresponsible and negligent "Intro to Scuba" experience. Warning! This dive shop is not PADI affiliated, - First of all, despite their website and building indicating they are PADI affiliates, the folks at PADI say they are NOT affiliated. My cousin and I booked a resort dive with the dive center while on vacation. I am PADI certified, but my cousin had never tried SCUBA before and wanted to see what it was like. We booked the dive for 1/25/23. My cousin and I were picked up from our resort and transported to the dive center. The van was 30 minutes late picking us up, so we arrived at the dive shop already behind schedule. I expected to fill out some paperwork and go through some basic instructions when we got there, but instead we were handed equipment to try on and were instructed to walk to the boat when we had ensured our gear fit properly. We walked to the boat that was pulled up on shore. Here, I expected the instructors to take my cousin and the other 4 unlicensed divers through the paces there in the shallow water before we departed for the dive. Instead, we were told to board the boat. Once everyone was aboard, the boat was on its way. During the 5 minute boat trip, the dive instructor covered a few things with the divers. He explained how to clear your mask, how to kick properly with your fins, the dive buddy concept, and 3 or 4 hand signals. When the boat slowed and stopped, I really expected it was going to be shallow water where he could perform the rest of the pre-dive instruction. Instead, we were at the dive site and as soon as the boat was secured, they started having people put on their dive equipment and drop into the water. The instructor told the divers to get into the water and hold onto the line and then practice putting their faces in the water and breathing through the regulator. Once everyone was in the water, I once again expected some further instructions for these complete beginners. There was no further instruction. We were told to descend the guide rope and wait at the bottom. My cousin began to panic a bit about 10ft down. I was able to stop with him and keep him calm. Thankfully he has quite a bit of swimming experience, and he was able to settle down and get a bit more comfortable. I looked around for the instructor and couldn't find him. Then I noticed he had gone back up to the boat and was changing out his tanks and dive jacket due to an equipment failure (air leak). I looked over at my cousin and noticed he had air leaking from the fitting on one of his hoses. I drew the instructor's attention to it, and he went over to check it out. After a quick glance, he gave us the thumbs-up and we moved along. The instructor motioned for us all to follow him and we began the dive. The dive went relatively normally for about 20 minutes. The instructor would swim over occasionally to check my cousin's air gauge, so I figured he was keeping a close eye on it. About 5 min later, we swam through an area that wasn't wide enough for two divers to swim through side-by-side. So I swam through and then looked back to check on my cousin. He was gone... I'm not one to panic, but I have to admit, my heart started racing. I tried to locate him around me, but had no success. I decided to swim back to where I last saw him. He wasn't there either. I was in full blown panic at this point. I hurried up and swam back to the group and found the secondary instructor. I conveyed that my dive partner was missing and he just pointed to himself and indicated he was my new dive partner. This did nothing to ease my concern about my cousin. After several minutes of attempting to get him to understand the issue, he finally signaled that my cousin had gone to the boat. After the dive ended and we ascended, I found out that the primary instructor had swam around the rocks (that's why I didn't see him) back to my cousin and checked his gauge again. Evidently it was so low at this point, he had to immediately take him back up to the boat. So low, that he couldn't take the time to swim over to me to let me know where my dive partner was going. The other thing I found out when I got into the boat is that a younger woman (one of the unlicensed divers) had panicked almost immediately and had to go back to the boat. So in this one small trip, we had two equipment failures out of eight divers. An instructor that takes someone's dive partner to the surface without letting the other partner know. And a brand new diver that panicked due to the absence of anything resembling responsible training and instruction. I would have to think that a 25% equipment failure rate is a direct indication they are not testing the air systems between uses. As I've never had any of these issues on my previous dives. I'm not a highly experienced diver, but I love diving. It would seem to me that the resort dive option is designed to allow people to get a feel for diving and to, hopefully, enjoy their experience enough to get certified. I would think that PADI instructors think of themselves as ambassadors for SCUBA and would not only want to follow the established safety and training procedures to reduce risk, but to also give these divers the kind of experience that makes them want to come back. I paid for two dives. Even as a licensed and comfortable diver, I had so little trust in the dive shop that I opted not to show up for the 2nd dive the next day, even though there was no refund for cancelling. I don't think this dive shop is conducting a responsible business. Not only are they hurting PADI and SCUBA with their practices, they are creating unnecessary risks that put lives in danger.
