Yes, Istria does produce wine. Exceptionally great wine, in fact. The Romans initiated this practice around 2000 years ago when they settled here.
Today, a vanguard of winemakers are revisiting the traditional methods of Istrian winemaking, pioneered by their ancestors, and experimenting with new techniques and styles. One of the current trends is organic wines. At the three wineries that you’ll be visiting, there are a range of wines to sample. These include young and vibrant wines, mature wines, and a select few organic wines.
This tour will enlighten you about small-scale, family-owned businesses in contrast to the renowned wineries. Envision savoring premium Istrian wines in a cozy cellar at a wooden table, or blissfully sipping a fresh Malvazija amidst the tranquility of Istria’s picturesque landscape.
You can decide whether you’d like to venture north in Istria or remain around Pula to discover our southern wine region. Regardless of your choice, the flavor profiles will differ due to varying soil conditions and terroir, but rest assured, either choice will be satisfying.
