An Absolutely Amazing Experience - The Butterfly Sanctuary is a little off of the beaten path, but it is 100% worth the trek. The guided tour provides educational/insightful information about each stage of the butterfly life cycle. If you get the opportunity to work with Fabian and/or Adrian, you will most certainly be in good hands. The tour ends with an incredible opportunity to release newly metamorphosized butterflies into the sanctuary! It was most definitely one of the highlights during my visit to Puerto Vallarta.

Wonderful Experience - This a wonderful experience! It is one of three in Mexico. Great way to learn about native butterflies of Mexico and support an awesome project. Ran by six people who have a passion for these beautiful butterflies who are pollinators and so important for the health of our planet. Lovely experience. Don’t take the google maps shortest route. It’s easy to get lost!

Nice tour off the beaten path - The tour at the butterfly garden was wonderful. While aimed at a younger crowd, maybe under teens, there was still enough to see and learn to make it enjoyable for adults. Our tour leader, Adrian, was very knowledgeable and made learning the life cycle of the butterflies fun. It's a short tour at about one hour, however you can spend longer in the sanctuary on your own. Off the beaten path so taxi or Uber unless you are comfortable with the Vallarta buses and the vagaries of their schedule!

Butterfly Lifecycle and Preservation - This was a very interesting experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about butterfly lifecycle and preservation. You get to touch and see butterflies in all different stages of development. We were adults but I think children would enjoy this activity as well. We had our taxi driver wait for us because it is a little bit removed from town.

Very enjoyable and interesting. - We really enjoyed our time at Jardin Magico. Adrian, our guide, was so knowledgeable and told us many things about butterflies and moths that we did not know. The garden is lovely and it was so awesome to be up close with the butterflies. The garden is a bit of a ways off the beaten path but so worth the trip to go there.

Sanctuary Mariposa in Puerto Vallarta - It's a young 2019 company which is really good, a nice little excursion, about an hour and a half. In a screened greenhouse, lots of butterflies and lots of flowers; the guide Dany taught us several things about caterpillars, chrysalises and butterflies.
We went there by taxi and the driver waited for us which is a good idea because it's not an area where there are a lot of taxis passing by. If you go there with your car there is free parking.

Long way for short visit - We booked through the sanctuary for shuttle pickup. We expected others but there was just us. We were picked up at Oxxo across from the Sheraton hotel by a taxi. We took the local bus to get there. The taxi then drove down the main road right past our hotel. Surely we could have been picked up near our hotel. Fortunately he took us to our hotel on the return journey.
It was quite a long way. The Guide was very good but he did say a hurricane had done damage last fall. The sanctuary is very small but we did see some butterflies in their natural habitat. We learned about butterfly habits.
