Puerto Rawson - Optional: sighting of Tonina Overa (Patagonian Dolphin)
The journey begins in the city of Puerto Madryn, where passengers are picked up from their accommodations. The route heads south along National Route No. 3, leading to the city of Rawson, the capital of Chubut province. Just a few kilometers away lies the port of Rawson, where the Chubut River meets the sea. Adjacent to this is Playa Union, a beach resort town on the open sea and part of BahÃa Engaño. Here, there is an opportunity to embark on an unforgettable adventure, sailing these waters while observing the Toninas Overas, commonly known as Patagonian Dolphins. The sailing is conducted in semi-rigid boats, seeking encounters with these incredibly friendly and active dolphins, known for their coastal habits and love of riding ocean waves and following boats. They are typically seen in groups of 2 to 10 individuals. -
Playa Isla Escondida - Escondida Island is a pristine beach that serves as a haven for elephant seals. In this area, visitors can observe these massive mammals, weighing up to 4 tons. Males in their reproductive age develop a tube or proboscis, which they use to produce loud roars to ward off competition. By mid-November, adult males leave the beaches, making way for the young and their mothers, who protect and feed them until they shed their skin in November.
The observation of this wildlife spectacle is from a privileged distance, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
After this remarkable visit to Isla Escondida, the journey continues to the Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area.
Following the tour of Punta Tombo, the return to Puerto Madryn begins.
- Punta Tombo - Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area is home to the largest continental colony of Magellanic Penguins in the world. Each year, Magellanic penguins arrive in this region to engage in their natural activities, including nesting, feeding, mating, raising their young, shedding their plumage, and preparing for their journey back to Northeastern South America, only to return the following year.
