Arrival at Amber Cove

The sun was just beginning to rise as our cruise ship docked at Amber Cove, Puerto Plata. The anticipation of the day ahead was palpable, and I could feel the familiar thrill of adventure coursing through my veins. As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the water, and the promise of exploring the 27 waterfalls of Damajagua was too enticing to resist. My partner and I had booked this excursion with Rigo, a local guide who came highly recommended, and we were eager to see what the day had in store.

Upon disembarking, we were greeted by Rigo, who was waiting for us with a warm smile. He introduced us to Augustin, our driver and city tour guide, and Gio, our unexpected but delightful photographer for the day. The drive to the waterfalls was filled with laughter and stories, as Augustin shared fascinating tidbits about the local culture and history. The lush greenery and vibrant landscapes of Puerto Plata whizzed by, setting the perfect backdrop for our adventure.

The Thrill of the Falls

Arriving at the 27 Falls of Damajagua, we were met by Miguel, our waterfall guide. He equipped us with life jackets and helmets, and after a quick safety briefing, we were off. The hike to the falls was invigorating, the air filled with the sounds of nature and the distant roar of cascading water. As we reached the first waterfall, I felt a rush of excitement. The water was cool and refreshing, a welcome respite from the Caribbean heat.

Jumping into the crystal-clear pools, sliding down natural rock slides, and feeling the rush of water all around was an experience like no other. The zip lines offered a bird’s-eye view of the lush landscape, the wind rushing past as I flew from platform to platform. It was a liberating experience, one that reminded me of the freedom I feel when riding the waves.

The combination of waterfalls and zip lines made for an unforgettable day, each activity complementing the other perfectly. As we made our way back to Amber Cove, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible experiences we had shared. The camaraderie with our guides, the beauty of the natural surroundings, and the thrill of adventure all combined to create a day that was truly special.
