A Splash of Adventure: Our Journey to Damajaguas Waterfalls

When I first heard about the Damajaguas Waterfalls in Puerto Plata, I knew it was a must-do for our family. As a travel writer who loves crafting family-friendly itineraries, I was eager to see if this adventure lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert: it did, and then some!

Our day began with a warm welcome from Daniela, our guide, who met us right outside the port. The organization was impeccable, and we were soon whisked away in a comfortable, air-conditioned van. The kids were thrilled with the complimentary water and snacks, while my husband and I enjoyed the local beer and rum shots. It was a delightful start to what promised to be an unforgettable day.

Conquering the Falls: A Family Challenge

The hike to the waterfalls was a bit of a workout, but the lush jungle landscape made every step worthwhile. Our guide was fantastic, ensuring we took breaks to rest and hydrate. The kids were fascinated by the native plants and local trees, and I loved seeing their curiosity sparked by nature.

Reaching the waterfalls was like stepping into a postcard. The cascading water was mesmerizing, and the sound was both powerful and soothing. The highlight for our family was the optional 18-foot jump. My heart raced as I watched my husband and son take the leap, their faces a mix of terror and exhilaration. After the waterfalls, we were treated to a delicious Dominican lunch, complete with chocolate tastings and a mini tour of a cacao plantation. The kids loved learning about how chocolate is made, and the adults enjoyed the Mamajuana shots and cacao liqueur.
