The best thing to do in Puerto Morelos! - The Puerto Morelos foodie tour was absolutely outstanding. Chris is amazing. He literally taught the history of the Yucatan Mexico and Puerto Morelos with every bite. The food was amazing. The restauranteurs that hosted us were gracious, warm and accommodating. I highly recommend this food tour when you are in Puerto Morelos. Chris also does a food tour in CancĂșn. If you do nothing else while in Puerto Morelos. Do this tour!

Puerto Morelos Foodie Tour - Come hungry, leave happy! - Just got back from a resort vacation in Mexico and the Puerto Morelos food your was the highlight of our trip. If you love food history, tasting local culture, and trying new dishes, then reserve this tour ASAP! You won't regret it. We opted for the morning tour to try and beat the heat, which began at 10 AM. Our adventure started at the 7/11 convenience store, where we bought a big bottle of water (gotta hydrate) and met up with our amazing guide, Chris. From there, we took a short walk to a taco stand, where Chris gave us an overview of the cuisine of the Yucatan area and all the diverse influence that made it what it is today. The next 2.5 hours were a mad dash through the streets of Puerto Morelos, hitting up all the best neighborhood spots and stuffing our bellies with rare and fresh treats of Mexican cuisine. Tour stops can vary based on the season and the restaurants' days off...but let me see if I can remember everything I ate on that particular day. First we had a taco of cochinita pibil, the marinated slow-cooked pork that is a specialty of the Yucatan region. The street-cart cafe had a variety of condiments and sauce (some very spicy!) so you can dress it up how you like. Next we visited a pulqueria to sip two kinds of pulque, a fermented agave beverage with ancient roots that is now rarely produced. I had never tried it before, so that was super cool! The taste was like a cousin of aloe juice, kombucha, and fruited beer. The pulqueria also served amazing food: Tlacoyos, a filling snack made of blue corn masa and stuffed with black bean or chicharron, topped with queso fresco, a pickled cactus relish and two kinds of homemade salsa. From there, we moved on to a local chicken place for a plate lunch of Sinaloan-style grilled chicken. It was served family style with beans and rice, tortillas, and sauces on the side, and we washed it down with a cold bottle of Mexican Coke. Our next stop was a produce market, where we got to sample various seasonal fruits, some of which were new to us! My wife was captivated by the ripe guavas, tiny pearl mangos, and a papaya-like fruit that tasted just like flan custard. I sampled the rare Yucatecan citruses, with their bracing acidity and haunting floral fragrance. In case we were still hungry (we weren't, but oh well!) we moved on to a seafood restaurant that served aguachiles, fried shrimp empanadas, and fresh tortilla chips accompanied by fiery fresh habanero salsa. Chris's knowledge of food was encyclopedic and his passion for the area's cuisine was obvious. I felt like we were in good hands the entire time. The town was lively and friendly, and the plates were delicious. I cannot express my gratitude for taking us on this fabulous culinary quest. A couple of things to keep in mind--the pace is quick, the spring/summer weather is hot, and the menu is omnivorous. If you have trouble walking around town or if you have a lot of food restrictions, then this may not be the tour for you. (It's not your average Cancun party-bus taco tour, and that's a good thing!) However, if you have comfy walking shoes and an adventurous palate, you are in for the foodie experience of a lifetime.

Wow!! - What a fun tour! Chris gives an interesting overview of the regions in Mexico and how that affects food and drink in the Riviera. The pace was perfect and the food was delicious. Chris answers all questions and is a joy to be around. Highly recommend!!

Chris is amazing! - We enjoyed two food tours with him, one at night in Puerto Morelos and one the next day in the morning in Cancun.... both were super detailed, informative and personal. We learned to know so much more about the Mexican food culture and how the area really started developing only quite recently. If we'd have to choose between the two tours, probably the night one in Puerto Morelos as the town is really charming and genuine. That does not mean that the Cancun tour falls behind, it's more about personal taste and you cannot go wrong on either. Just book both!

Fantastic Food & Cristobal Rocks! - We had the most amazing experience on the foodie tour with our guide Cristobal. He was so fantastic! Not only did he tailor our food stops based on our individual dietary needs, but he chose extraordinary dishes-each restaurants serving cuisine from different states of Mexico & he was so wonderful & knowledgeable in educating us about each dish, how they were prepared, region from which they came, & chefs who prepared the dishes. I really loved how animated & cheerful Cristobal was coupled with how informative, engaging, & friendly he was. The food was fantastic & I will not forget this experience. Thank you so much!

Great experience with a wonderful tour guide - I would recommend this tour to anyone! Chris is such a friendly and welcoming person with great knowledge of the area and history of the food we ate. The food was delicious from local eateries ran by families that originated from different regions in Mexico. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were so full by the end. Afterwards Chris even took us to the local doctors to help translate for my partner who ended up having an ear blocked full of sand!! We appreciated it so much and cannot thank him enough. If you find yourself in the area then this tour is a must!
