From Puerto Maldonado to the Hostel.
Puerto Maldonado - Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station, guests will be greeted and transferred to the office for check-in. Following a well-deserved lunch, the adventure begins with a tour of the 35-meter-high Canopy Tower, featuring an exhilarating zipline through the jungle.
Later, the next activity involves boarding a boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River in search of jungle caimans, typically found along the riverbanks. With some luck, there might be a chance to spot the capybara, the world’s largest rodent, weighing up to 60 kilos, a fascinating relative of the Peruvian guinea pig.
Enjoy dinner and a restful night at the lodge.
NOTE: Arrival flights must be scheduled before 1:00 PM to ensure transportation.
Sandoval Lake.
Tambopata National Reserve - After an early breakfast, embark on a short hike (two miles/three kilometers) to Sandoval Lake, a significant piranha habitat within the Tambopata National Reserve. A rowboat ride with a guide offers the opportunity to observe a variety of bird and monkey species, including hoatzins, cormorants, jacanas, herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths. With some luck, a family of endangered giant river otters, each nearly two meters long, might be encountered. There is also the possibility of seeing the largest caiman ever recorded, measuring over four meters in length. Enjoy a traditional lunch at the lodge. In the evening, a night walk reveals the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal creatures in the area. Dinner and another night at the lodge follow.
Parrot and Parakeet Clay Lick - Puerto Maldonado
Tambopata National Reserve - Early in the morning, guests will depart the lodge to visit the parrot and parakeet clay lick. Each day, these birds arrive early to consume the nutrient-rich clay, which provides essential salts and minerals to help them metabolize and neutralize the toxins and acids from their diet of flowers, fruits, and seeds.
Return to the lodge around 7:00 a.m. for breakfast, then board the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. The boat departs at 10:30 a.m. Following this, guests will be transferred to the airport or bus station.
End of service!
