Explore the 9th-century Arunachaleswarar Temple, dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. This temple is not only the largest in the world dedicated to Shiva but also boasts a 216-foot high tower, the second tallest temple tower globally. The temple complex spans 25 acres and features several pillared halls, including one with a thousand pillars.
- Sri Ramana Ashram - Following this, visit the Ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi, located at the base of the Arunachala hills, just outside the town. Visitors can also explore the cave on the Arunagiri slope, where the saint is believed to have meditated. Among the early visitors to the Ashram were British writers Paul Brunton in 1931 and Somerset Maugham in 1938, the latter of whom used Sri Ramana Maharshi as inspiration for the character Shri Ganesha in his novel, The Razor’s Edge.
After visiting the Ashram, enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at a local restaurant.
Post-lunch, guests will be driven back to Pondicherry and returned to their hotel.
