Once we’ve gathered our group in Coimbra, we’ll set off for Aveiro, which is less than sixty minutes away. Our first activity will be a tranquil ride on one of the traditional Moliceiros boats, vessels previously utilized for harvesting ‘moliço’ and for the transportation of seaweed and salt. This 45-minute aquatic journey will navigate us through the city’s unique urban canals, distinguishing Aveiro as the ‘Portuguese Venice’.
Next in our itinerary, we will visit Praia da Barra. Here, we’ll explore the Vouga river mouth and the Aveiro estuary, bordered by sturdy walls that have created a serene, wave-free beach, popular amongst families. The Aveiro lighthouse is another sight to behold here.
Proceeding onwards, we arrive at Costa Nova, lauded as one of Portugal’s most picturesque beaches. Its most distinctive feature is its neighboring houses, adorned with multicolored, striped paint jobs that line the Ria.
After soaking in all that Costa Nova has to offer, we conclude our tour with a return to Coimbra.
