Into the Heart of Cilento

The sun was just beginning to rise as I set off on my journey to the Province of Salerno, a region that promised an adventure unlike any other. The Calore Gorge Excursion was calling my name, and I was eager to answer. As someone who has spent years immersed in the lush, vibrant ecosystems of the Amazon, the idea of exploring another wild and untouched landscape was irresistible.

Arriving at the meeting point in Castelnuovo Cilento, I was greeted by a group of fellow adventurers, each as eager as I was to delve into the heart of Cilento. After our hike, we made our way to Antonio’s, a charming eatery located at the entrance of the gorge. Here, we were treated to a culinary experience that was as rich and vibrant as the landscape we had just explored. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Fusilli di Felitto, a traditional pasta dish unique to this region.

The pasta was handmade, each piece a testament to the skill and dedication of the local artisans. Paired with a small starter and a glass of local wine, it was a meal that celebrated the flavors of Cilento in the most authentic way possible.

As we made our way back, we stopped in Magliano and Cannalonga, two towns that offered breathtaking views of the gorge and a chance to savor a perfectly brewed espresso. It was the perfect end to a day filled with adventure, culture, and the kind of natural beauty that leaves a lasting impression.
