Additional Information

Our highly suggested things to do in Zanzibar includes a chance to swim and snorkel at three exclusive locales: with Dolphins, unwinding at the Sandbanks, and snorkeling at Mnemba Reef. Mnemba Island was voted the top beach destination in Africa by tripsavvy.

To ensure accuracy, it’s important to note that Mnemba is a reef, not an Atoll - a title it sometimes earns in different papers and maps. Mnemba is famous for the superior clearness of its waters (in this portion of the Indian Ocean) and the exceedingly abundant and variable corals and tropical marine life that can be seen while Snorkeling.

The marine life at Mnemba Reef is vast, some of which includes Angel Fish, Blue Spotted Rays, Black Snappers, Groupers, Red Tooth Triggers, Flounder, Octopuses, Leaf Fish, Scorpion Fish, Stone Fish, Frog Fish, and numerous Trevallies.

An absolutely amazing experience - This was one of the few places that do pick ups from further down the island which is such a bonus but the experience itself was absolutely amazing. The captain made sure we were ok the whole time jumping in with us when we swam with dolphins always checking in that we were ok and were able to see them. The snorkeling was also amazing the captain was showing us the different fish and telling us about them took photos close up further down of the reef and of us it was such an exceptional experience I would highly recommend to go with them especially seeing other boats with people jumping in without the captain it just made you feel safer with him there with you as he also held the hand of one of our friends so was slightly scared. The fruit was also amazing and freshly cut onboard.

Amazing morning with the Dolphins! - The private taxi picked us up on time and he coordinated with the boat operators as soon as we reached the beach! I recommend going early around 6:30am. Not too many boats at all and more chance of seeing Dolphins.. we swam with the dolphins for a really good period of time. They didn’t seem alarmed by our presence. The guys on the boat held our GoPro for us and got some great footage! Couldn’t have asked for more!

Blue day on the boat - Boat & ocean lovers, don’t miss this opportunity to Enjoy the beauty of the nature at Zanzibar - Mnemba Island. The Best part of the trip was seeing wild dolphins in their natural habitat. There was no need for all kind of fresh fruits or snorcheling with different type of fishes. Captain Mário did manage it all! Only thing we needed to do was come to the beach in the time that we selected. 100% recommended from us! Thank you Captain! 🩵

Lovely day with my family - Lovely experience with my family, for the first time we had actually swim with the dolphins 🐬, the experience was completely different with what we have done in other countries. We started the trip early at 5:00 a.m, it was unbelievable and the only sad thing is that we didn't bring go pro to film it. Sutan Tours did an amazing Job.

To do but be careful!!! - To do but be careful! Watsapp the day before to ask us to be ready at 6 a.m. to enjoy and see the dolphins. No problem. We left in a small boat (there were only two tourist boats at that time) and we did not want to "chase" the dolphins as I had read in reviews posted on trip', so we did so. informed the guide. We were therefore able to see the dolphins up close and the children swam nearby without jumping into the water, without cutting off their path, etc. We stayed a short time to see them but at our request to respect the animals. We then went near the island to swim and take photos in the transparent and turquoise waters. Then towards the reef where there were few people when we arrived. The guide was careful to anchor on the sand and not on the corals as we saw others do when we left. During our dive, we were visited by dolphins while we were calm; they were swimming below us. On the other hand, boats saw the dolphins and came towards us and scared them away... So a piece of advice: ask guides and drivers to respect the animals and the environment and your experience will only be better. This was our case.

Dolphin hunting - I don't recommend going there, it's more like a dolphin hunt than diving with the locals with their boat, chasing them and throwing the tourists into the water. When there are some we find ourselves in a war scene they are scared no pleasure. It was horrible. I have been a diver for 40 years and have been diving. I've never seen a dolphin approach us, it films the boats, that's all.

horrible, sad and cruel - Horrible ! A dolphin hunt, more than thirty boats full of tourists chasing the dolphins screaming and in a cloud of gasoline smell. The dolphins tried to escape, they could only breathe quickly and dove again to escape. This should be banned! We asked to go back without swimming, the only thing missing was the harpoons, really sad. It is absolutely necessary that local authorities regulate this type of activity!

Horrible. Cruel - Horrible, around thirty screaming motorboats, incredible stress for the dolphins. Above all, don't do this. Not to mention the madmen who dived into the middle of the propellers only to see nothing in the end because the poor animals had fled. If you like dolphins, leave them alone. This activity should be PROHIBITED.
