Additional Information

Prepare to journey back in time and relish the traditional Czech food through our Prague Retro Food Tour. The tour wanders around local haunts reminiscent of the communist era of the former Czechoslovakia, a unique twist from the usual tourist destinations.

We’ll stop at 4 theme-based venues, encompassing a pre-WW2 pub, a pastry shop popular amongst the grandmothers of Prague for their weekly gatherings, a renowned Prague delicatessen dating back to 1916, and a wine bar from the socialist period serving draft wine from the Moravian Slovakia region.

This tour isn’t only about food, though. Along our path, you’ll witness some of the most stunning passageways during the on-foot commute between the tour sites. You can expect interesting historical anecdotes and plenty of recommendations for other Prague pubs, eateries, and coffee shops that are worth a visit.

In order to maintain an intimate atmosphere, our tours are limited to small groups. This ensures engaging interactions amongst the group and shows respect to the locals and the regular patrons of our chosen venues.

  • Please note that the entire duration includes our walking time.
  • The Tour is not suitable for vegans and vegetarians should expect very limited options as Czech cuisine is mostly meat based. If you have some allergies or intolerance, let us know in advance and we will try to modify the menu if needed.
Location
I. P. Pavlova
We will meet in front of the OBER Bank at "I. P. PAVLOVA" square which is very easy to access because it's also an underground station (line C - RED) and TRAM stop of the same name. It's also no more than 10 minute walk from National museum building at the top part of Wenceslas square.

What an amazing food your - Petra was absolutely amazing. We got lost since it was our first time in Prague and she was able to help us navigate to the meeting spot. She took time to give us history and teach us about the native cuisine. We absolutely would recommend this tour and Petra we appreciate all of your time you spent with us. We had an amazing time!

Amazing guide for an unique tour - It was a really nice tour where we could experience Czech food and visit some authentic and traditional places. I would like also to thank our Amazing guide Petra who is full of knowledge and answers all the questions we asked in perfect French. I really recommend this tour because it's really different from other tours and it will help you to discover the real Czech Republic and learn more about their culture and history.

Fantastic food tour! Highly recommended! - We had so much fun running around town with Michale and Petra on their local food tour. I only wish we'd done it at the beginning of our trip instead of at the end. This is our fourth time in Prague and we'd already been in town for a week and a half, so we thought we had a good understanding of the city, its history, and its culture. Although after our food tour, we realized that we were only scratching the surface of what we could learn. Michale and Petra took us to traditional restaurants and bars, "off the beaten path" but also right under our noses. On several occasions, we went into places we'd walked by numerous times but never went in because there were no menus in English and the people working there seemed to speak no English at all. What a mistake! Once guided by Michale and Petra we realized that these places had terrific food and drinks and were extremely inexpensive. It was fun to blend in and really experience these authentic very much "under touristed" places. Along with the food and drink we got a real sense of the history of the city and the culture. Michale and Petra are wonderfully open and engaging people and very easy to talk with. We always felt very comfortable. I'd highly recommend this tour. Make sure you arrive hungry and with your walking shoes on.

An Authentic and Intimate Experience - Prague Local Experience is a beautiful tour of an iconic, but under visited, part of Prague. The tour is rich with stories and history that spans many eras. Petra and Michal are knowledgeable and thoughtful. Their insight into the Czech culture is invaluable. They are true locals and their love for Prague is so strong. More than fun and interesting, this tour is deeply personal. There is a lot of time to ask questions and the hosts are happy to answer. You’ll fall in love with the flavors of Czech cuisine and beer. You’ll enjoy the beauty of Prague from authentic vantage points. And by the end of it all, you will feel like you’ve known Petra and Michal a lifetime.

A local perspective! - Petra and Michal led a wonderful tour! They have so much reverence for the place they are from. We visited many places that most tourists would never see, and learned a ton about Prague’s history. It was so much fun to hear the personal anecdotes that were sprinkled in as well. We felt almost like locals by the end of the tour! 10/10 highly recommended. Thank you so much!

Incredible views, beer, and food!!! - We went on this tour (and several others in Prague) and this was by far the most interesting and "off the beaten path" type tour. We had delicious food and beer with a spectacular view and saw the real statues of the Charles Bridge, what a shock! I cannot recommend this more highly!!!

Finger-licking good 😍 - A thoroughly enjoyable experience! We started the day with a delicious breakfast in a place that felt like frozen in time. Very traditional! Petra and Miša talked us through Czech traditions and culture and explained how often times they are very connected. Loved the restaurant food and its crafted beers. I recommend going on an empty stomach to fully indulge in this authentic Czech culinary experience.

Alternative and fun experience in Prague! - If you are looking for a an alternative/out of the ordinary experience in Prague, you need to try the food tour with Prague Local Experience! You will have the chance to taste typical sweets, main meals, snacks and drinks in selected non touristy places, while being provided a lot of interesting info and facts about Czech history and culture from this young couple. I loved the passion and enthusiasm that Petra and Miša showed us during the tour, they are very nice and easygoing and I really had a good time with them and the other participants of the tour. A piece of advice: make sure you come with an empty and strong stomach because there are quite a few meals (and drinks) to try out! 😋
