Additional Information

Numerous overseas tourists who visit the Czech Republic frequent Prague and a number of other municipalities, while the country’s rural areas merely serve as backdrop vistas from the bus. It is unfortunate given that the tranquil countryside provides insights into the origins of the compositions of Czech music figures like Smetana, Dvorak, Janacek, and Martinu and the inspirations behind leading Czech artists’ color pallets.

The diverse landscape of the Bohemian countryside spans across lowlands and forested highlands to frontier mountains, bestowing it with varied appearances. Certain features of these landscapes hold significant importance in the cultural history of the Czech Republic, even evolving into national emblems. One such place is the Bohemian Paradise, originally reaching the outskirts of the town Trutnov. This area was once submerged under a prehistoric sea, whose sediment surface elevated and ruptured due to tectonic plate shifts and volcanic activity, leading to the formation of today’s sandstone walls and towers.
