Excursion to the Douro Valley with Amarante, wine tasting, lunch and river cruise in a small group (English/French) - First of all: As an advertisement for German-speaking guests, customers or those interested in this excursion with English and/or French skills, this review is in German for better orientation. So: English and/or French skills are definitely required. However, comparable excursions are not offered in German at all anyway. We only booked the excursion to the Duoro Valley with wine tasting in the vineyards, boat tour in Pinhão, lunch and a detour to Amarante one day in advance because we wanted to get our bearings on site first and have a personal explanation of the process. In the end, we were convinced by an offer in a small excursion office above the Ponte Luiz I. Here we opted for a private tour in a mini-van with Hugo with pick-up near our hotel. Only one French mother-daughter team took part in the tour. The pick-up was right on time, before the agreed time of 8:30 a.m. Our tour guide Hugo told us a lot of interesting facts about the region, winemaking, port wine and history in English and French during the journey. The journey to our first stop in Amarante was only about 45 minutes. Amarante is a typical small town with an impressive church, monastery and old town, which can be reached via a bridge. For second breakfast we enjoyed Pasteis de Nata in a small café here. After a short stay and continuing our journey, we enjoyed a great wine tasting in a quinta in the Sabrosa area. Here, after a short tour and explanation of the storage in the barrels, we were offered a tasting of white wine, olive oil, rosé wine, various types of honey and red wine. The highlight was a white port wine that had been aged for many years. After that we had a delicious lunch in Sabrosa (veal steaks, fish fillets, but also a vegetarian pasta dish with mushrooms). From here, refreshed, we headed downhill through vineyards to the Douro River with a short one-hour boat trip on the Douro in a converted historic Rabelo (port wine ship) to round off the day trip. The return trip went along the river bank from Pinhão to Peso da Régua and then via Vila Real to Porto, where we returned around 6 p.m. Many thanks to Hugo for an unforgettable day with great impressions. The trip was definitely highly recommended. Hugo speaks easy-to-understand English (but also French), so we were well informed all day. Great.

Amazing valley tour! - Absolutely amazing tour with a phenomenal guide Hugo. We were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour so it was completely private. The guide Hugo knew so much about the history and culture of the region and it felt like we were just traveling with a friend showing us around. The stops were all great, including a church, wine and other tastings, delicious lunch and gorgeous boat cruise. Can not recommend enough!

Amazing private experience through the valley! - This was a fantastic tour with Hugo, an experience we were so lucky to have! The three of us were the only people on the tour and it was a great private way to enjoy the region. Our guide Hugo was extremely knowledgable about the history and culture of the places we visited. The tour was great because it had multiple stops including a church, the wine tasting, lunch, and the boat cruise. Would 100% book again with this tour, can not recommend enough!

A really cool day - The guide was really great! We walked around the lake, then entered in the church and we had explanations of the guide. Then we had a tasting of wine, oil and honey. It was good. Then we ate in a good restaurant. And finally we had a trip on a boat to see the valley. It was beautiful and relaxing. All the people we met were super nice! It was a really cool experience!

Very beautiful tour with friendly guide - We really enjoyed every second of this tour. Our guide Paulo was very friendly and gave us a lot of recommendations for our next days in Porto. He also knew a lot about the history of the things that we saw on the tour. The winery that we went to was very beautiful and the wine (& the olive oil & the honey) was very tasty. The winery was a family business and we had it all to ourselves without a lot of other tourists there. The lunch was fantastic, they also had a lot of options for vegetarians. And the boat trip and the N222 were the perfect ending of the day. We would definitely recommend those tour.

Wow experience - What an experience. We were just 2 of us and we were treated like royals. We went on a Mercedes and our driver cum guide is an excellent person. He always gave us enough time to enjoy the place and made sure that we get a great experience. Amazing guy. I will do it with them again and highly recommend this tour. Their selection of the winery was great.

Outstanding day - Our driver Daniel was on time and very personable… he understood that we needed to be back for our cruise by 4:30 and ensured there were no issues with timing. Our excursion to the vineyard was outstanding and learned a lot about wine making and port making in the Douro Valley. After a tasting, we enjoyed a spectacular three-course lunch that was the best meal we had on our holiday… truly blown away. Would highly recommend this tour.

Avoid this tour, wish we had known how unreliable they are. - We booked this tour. Was at the meeting point 15 minutes ahead standing in the cold. They never showed up. Had a young passerby call and they told her they forgot. Then the hotel called for me because I wanted to make sure we got a refund. They said there was a death in someone’s family. I’m sure a bunch of BS. This was our last full day here so we are SOL. It’s too late now to book another one. EXTREMELY disappointed in both TripAdvisor and Viator for using this tour service.
