How Lucky Are We? - Firstly, I must give credit to the young lady in the kiosk by the Porto City Hall for her thoroughness in describing this excursion to us. Her detail convinced us to book, and what's more, she created space for the two of us on the next day tour, (April 1) in the late afternoon on March 31. Next, we talk about Rita. If she is not the best tour guide, you tell me who is. She is genuine, knowledgable, and demonstrated great care in making our experience the best possible. And, finally, about our A+ driver, Paolo Ramos; a true gentleman who made a perfect pairing with Rita. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Living Tours and will highly recommend to anyone considering taking a tour of the Douro Valley and wineries.

Good experience for a general learning experience - The guide, Ricardo, and driver, Thiago. Are excellent. The learning experience is moderately beneficial. It was disappointing that the first wine expert at Kopke (sp?) was poor at engaging us and providing a genuine learning experience. He went through the motions and seemed quite indifferent especially when asked questions. I cannot recommend him. If I was his boss he would no longer have a job as the expert. The second expert, a young woman, was engaging and educational. In general the wines are not exceptional but the ports are worth the experience. The food was not special at all. Have low expectations. The river ride is a bit silly and seems like a token benefit of the trip. Overall the value was the education provided by Ricardo who genuinely wanted us to benefit from the experience. He knows the history and the region. The other positive are the views of the amazing wine area. Personally I would have loved more time learning about the people, their history, the wines, etc. I don’t consider the wine tasting a very positive experience with the exception of the opportunity to learn about the port wines and the tasting of an aged tawny port.

Special Tour of Duoro Wine Valley with Ana! - We had a very special day touring the Duoro wine valley with our very experienced guide Ana. She really customized the tour to our desires as we were very keen to learn all about the history of the region, the different types of wine (including port wine), and the different wine regions in Portugal (of which we visited two). We also had a great lunch in a very local family style setting with house made wine of great quality.
