Highlights
  • Hair of the Dog Brewing Company - We’ll walk about 3/4 mile through the Central Eastside Industrial District (now home to food manufacturers, local restaurants, distilleries, wineries, coffee roasters and tea makers too!) to Hair of the Dog Brewing, one of the oldest craft breweries in Portland and one of the first on the West Coast to experiment with barrel aging. The experiments continue; every day Hair of the Dog picks a special aged barrel to tap. We’ll try one from the wood, as they say, as well as one of the brewery’s classic beers. Need a snack? Try the pickle plate, one of the most interesting in the city, or the delicious Brussels sprouts.

Additional Information

Our intimate Eastside Craft Brewery walking tour takes you to the side of Portland that has always been the epicenter of creativity. We operate from the heart of Eastside, a hub packed with breweries both new and established. The tour navigates through an industrial district rich in food and art culture, journeying through the historical and modern aspects of Portland’s craft brewing tradition.

Portland, holding the record of the highest number of breweries, was a pioneer in the craft beer scene. No matter your beer preference – sours, barrel-aged crafts, Belgians, Wits, or Imperial IPAs? Maybe you’re a fan of fresh hops, dry hops, or even no hops? – You’re certain to find a brewery that has made that style its specialty. All these styles flourish in our neighborhood, where Around Portland tours are based.

The tour entails 2-3 miles of walking that includes just enough beer tasting to help you decide which circuit you’d love to revisit. We always maintain small groups to ensure a personal and engaging encounter with your enthusiastic guides!

Beers with friends taste best! - Our tour guide Edwin, was super friendly and informative. He provided lots of recommendations. We enjoyed our conversations with him throughout the tour. We enjoyed the breweries we visited. The pizza was delicious, definitely recommend. Chuckanut was our favorite brewery that we visited. Try the Mexican Style Lager, or the Vienna Lager. :)

Amazing guide! - Evan was fantastic! He knows his history of the city very well, and it felt like going out with a close friend for a beer rather than walking around with a stranger. If you’re in the area, request him and you’ll have a great time. He’s very funny and friendly and a joy to hang out with. -Alex and Ian

Delicious and informative! - This tour was the perfect way to spend an afternoon in Portland. Our tour guide, Sarah, shared her expansive knowledge about both beer and Portland with us. She always had a recommendation and a fun fact for us as she led us through parts of town I wouldn't have otherwise had the chance to see. Good fun and fantastic beer!

Maybe don’t book this one through Viator… - I was traveling solo for a business trip and had a free afternoon. I was hoping to check out area breweries with fellow beer lovers! I showed up for the tour, and was informed it wasn’t actually on the calendar. They explained Viator might have made it available, even though they had blocked it off, and didn’t have a guide. They were super nice, so I don’t like only giving them 2 stars…but this was an oversight that messed up my afternoon. It was too late to book another experience since it was already a little later in the afternoon. If you do book through Viator…maybe call to confirm there is actually a tour.
