Two departures are available, each featuring varied terrain and approximately 900 ft (300 meters) of elevation gain. The classic hike centers around a Northwest Portland experience and concludes at the International Rose Test Garden (when in season), with the Forest Park Experience starting at 9 a.m. There are limited departures at 1:30 p.m. Once a week, an afternoon hike begins at Goose Hollow, traversing neighborhoods and ascending into the park (2:30 p.m.). Both routes pass iconic landmarks such as the Japanese Garden, Pittock Mansion, and Witch’s Castle, but offer a unique approach to the forest.
In Forest Park, within minutes of leaving the street, one can easily forget or marvel at the fact that they are still in a city.
