Additional Information

The moments preceding dusk present the ideal paddling opportunity on Casco Bay’s waters. The skyline often bursts into vibrant hues and the sea usually becomes mirror-like and tranquil. This excursion involves a relaxed paddle, enough to admire a sweeping view of the sunset over the city while we return to the East End Beach. This two-hour journey is suited for all paddling skill levels, even for beginners in kayaking.

The specific course we follow depends on the weather and the group’s desires and abilities, however, the Sunset Tour typically begins exploring Portland harbor’s waterfront, followed by the open seas towards Casco Bay’s islands.

We will call off this tour if there’s consistent rain, high winds or any conditions that we believe will interfere with an amazing paddling experience. But, we will carry on with our tours in light drizzles, cloudy skies or slightly cool temperatures.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Departure time may vary depending on the sunset time of the day. Please contact supplier 24 hours prior to verify.
  • Minimum age is 10 years old
  • Most participants will be given tandem (two-person) kayaks unless they request a solo kayak
  • Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. It is usually cooler on the water than on land.

Lovely - Site was a little sketchy with too much going on in a little space but staff were courteous and efficient. Guide (Tall) was knowledgeable, funny and patient. Sunset was gorgeous.

Wonderful time - The weather wasn’t the absolute best, overcast and sprinkling rain but it made the waters calm and perfect for an easy kayaking tour of Casco Bay. Gerben was the perfect guide, knowledgeable and such a wonderful personality. We got to see grey seals and an Osprey nest. I am so glad we booked this tour. Thank you Gerben!

perfect addition to my visit to Portland - I had a fabulous time! Melanie served as our group's guide and was patient and encouraging -- as well as communicative and responsive -- which made all the difference given that I came on board with almost no experience. The sunset paddle made for a superb late afternoon/early evening, and was the perfect addition to my visit to Portland. Mahalo! Thanks!

Great kayaking experience - It was a lot of fun and Dan was a great guide. We got to see seals sunning themselves on an island we kayaked around. Dan made sure that we were always safe.

Wonderful sunset tour - It was an excellent tour, which was reasonably priced. Our guide was knowledgeable and so mellow, offering to go in whatever direction the group wanted. Took us past the rock where all of the seals converge. Several jumped into the water and swam halfway to us all to observe us so we got a good look at them too. Very enjoyable and relaxing. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Portland. We were so happy with the tour that we went back a couple of days later for the kayak tour to the abandoned fort, which was equally worthwhile.

Wonderful paddle in the bay! - This was such a great experience. Lauren was fabulous. She was well organized, well in tune with the group, safety came first, and remembered everyone’s name! We had wonderful weather for the first hour and then clouds rolled in and it became much cooler. We were fortunate to have the sun peek out before we finished. Our only dings for not giving it a five star are: it was a sunset tour and we finished the last 25 minutes headed away from the sunset view, the chairs to wait for your tour were haphazard at best and the only bathroom facilities were the park’s porta-toilets that were filthy..obviously the paddle company has no control over that! I also believe the trip could be 15 minutes shorter and everyone would have been just as satisfied. I would absolutely do this trip again…now better prepared for a fairly strenuous 1.5 hour of paddling.

Fun Night in Casco Bay - This experience was a great way to get out on the Casco Bay and see wildlife. Our guide, Nathan, was personable and informative. Given the number of unskilled participants, he could have benefitted from the help of another guide when preparing the group to get in the water. That said, we still got sufficient time in the water and had a memorable experience.
