Best kept secret in Kingston!!! - I had one day to explore Kingston while visiting for business. I had the most amazing experience with Marie and Donovan! They were courteous, accommodating, and extremely professional! I was the only guest that day and they treated me to a few extra stops along the way since we had a bit more time. Port Royal is an underrated historic town. There is so much history to be seen! They were both very knowledgeable about Kingston and willing to indulge my questions. We stopped along the route for cold drinks, clean rest rooms, and some incredible food! This tour, by far, exceeded my expectations! Mostly due to the Marie and Donovan. I had a full day and experienced more of Kingston than I expected! Five stars for sure! We got off the beaten path and explored the real Kingston. I highly recommend this tour! They went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience!

A Joyful Day in Kingston, Thanks to Marie - My experience with Marie was fantastic. She’s got this great mix of charisma, energy, and genuine passion that makes the whole tour feel easy and fun. We explored Port Royal—Charles Fort and the old Naval Cemetery—then headed downtown for real local food, grabbed coconut water on the road, checked out the National Gallery of Jamaica, and wandered past some amazing murals. We finished with Devon House ice cream and a stroll through Emancipation Park. Everyone we met was kind and welcoming, and with Marie leading the way, it was so easy to fall in love with Kingston.

# A Day of Living History — Port Royal & Spanish Town (May 9) - From the moment I set out with Donovan and Marie, the day felt like stepping into Jamaica’s living archive. Donovan—proudly Jamaican—and Marie—British with Jamaican heritage—are the kind of hosts who turn a good itinerary into a memorable experience. Warm, attentive, and wonderfully knowledgeable, they stitched stories into every stop and made me feel like a welcomed friend rather than a visitor. We began in Port Royal, once the bustling “Wickedest City,” where history still hums beneath the surface. At the Giddy House—the famously tilted relic—I laughed my way through the doorway as the slanted floor played tricks on my balance, a playful reminder of how earthquakes reshaped this coastline. Just beyond, the sunken city pulled the imagination seaward: remnants of streets and stories, a maritime palimpsest where each wave seems to reveal and conceal the past in equal measure. **Pirates & Fortifications** Port Royal’s swagger is inseparable from its age of buccaneers and privateers. Standing by the old ramparts and cannon lines, it’s easy to picture brigs and sloops crowding the harbor, and to hear the echoes of names like Henry Morgan carried on the wind. The fort’s weathered brickwork and squat turrets aren’t just picturesque—they’re a tangible reminder that this was once a maritime nerve center, balancing commerce, conflict, and a famously rowdy nightlife. Inside Fort Charles, a local guide walked me through the angled embrasures, the cannon lines, and the sightlines over the channel, bringing the seafaring defenses vividly to life. Meanwhile, Donovan and Marie waited for me outside the fort, coordinating the stop and ready with helpful context and next-step suggestions when I came out. **Everyday Life at Fort Charles (Mess Deck & Turrets)** Rather than focusing on facilities, my visit inside centered on the **mess deck**—the space where soldiers and officers would gather for meals, briefings, and a bit of camaraderie. Seeing that communal area anchors the fort’s story in daily routine: rations and orders below, cannon and turrets above. With the local guide’s explanations, the layout made sense—the circulation between mess spaces, barracks, stores, and the defensive positions—so the fort reads not only as a set of walls, but as a lived-in post. While I toured with the guide, Donovan and Marie waited outside, keeping everything on schedule and ready with the next moves. Back in Kingston, the Excelsior Hotel provided a comfortable pause—cool lobby, easy service, and a welcome breather between heritage sites. From my window, the view slid across Kingston Harbour toward the slender sweep of the Palisadoes, with water shifting from steel to sapphire as the light changed. It’s the sort of outlook that resets you: a quiet horizon framed by the harbor’s working rhythms and distant hills. Then we continued to Spanish Town, the former capital and a treasure for anyone who loves architecture and civic history. Emancipation Square unfolded like an open-air museum: stately facades framing a space that has witnessed centuries of ceremony and change. We paused by the Old King’s House site and at City Hall, where the city’s civic heartbeat still echoes through colonnades and courtyards. With Donovan guiding the route and Marie adding historical context, the monuments felt less like static landmarks and more like voices in conversation. What stood out most—beyond the beauty and gravity of these places—was the care from my hosts. Donovan’s easygoing patience and deep roots, paired with Marie’s thoughtful, inclusive perspective, created an atmosphere of generosity and respect. If you’re seeking Jamaica’s heritage in a way that is authentic, human, and deeply informative, a day with Donovan and Marie is the perfect path. I ended the day with a camera full of photos, a mind full of history, and a heart genuinely grateful for two exceptional hosts.

Incredible Experience in Port Royal – A Must-Do Tour! - If you're visiting Kingston and love history, the Port Royal tour with One Stop Cultural Tours Jamaica is an absolute must! From the moment we arrived, the experience was engaging and educational. Fort Charles, shaped like a ship, was an architectural highlight, and our tour guide was fantastic—super informative, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing the rich history of the area. One of the most memorable parts of the tour was visiting the Giddy House. The way it leans from the 1907 earthquake gives a truly surreal, must-experience feeling; you’ll feel like you're losing your balance! Marie and Donovan, our hosts, were wonderful. They not only ensured everything ran smoothly but also pointed out other local gems in Port Royal, including the popular Gloria’s Restaurant and the new port development. Their insights added so much value to the day. What makes this tour even more special is that Port Royal is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Knowing you're standing in a place with such deep cultural and historical importance makes the experience all the more meaningful. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to connect with Jamaica’s heritage through storytelling, expert guiding, and a personal touch. Thank you, One Stop Cultural Tours Jamaica!
