Great day with Fabrizio - Our guide Fabrizio took us on amazing tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum with our 2 kids aged 5 and 9. Despite the heat and many hours walking, Fabrizio kept everyone engaged and excited to see what’s next. Highly knowledgeable and a great storyteller.

Perfect Private Tour with the best guide - Ilaria or Hilary was the nicest and well educated guide we could have asked for. From meeting us at the port and sharing stories on the way to and from the site was wonderful. Thank you for the pizza spot also! We had a fantastic time.

Fantastic private tour - Ilaria was a knowledgeable, friendly and experienced guide who gave us a fascinating personalised tour of Herculaneum. It took two hours to cover the whole site - nothing was rushed and she drew our attention to several interesting features of the site, including the carbonised wood lintels and the business advertisements in the forum. My husband is an archaeologist and our guide, who had several degrees in archaeology, answered all of his detailed questions in depth. After the tour was finished, Ilaria also took the time to guide us to a great pizza restaurant near the train station in Naples. The tour was a highlight of our stay in Italy and we wouldn’t hesitate to book with this company again.

Very interesting tour of Herculaneum - We chose Leisure Italy's Herculaneum Day Trip by Train since we dislike traffic congestion in historic cities and try to avoid using private automobiles. Our Leisure Italy guide, Natasha, was waiting for us (well before the appointed time) as we walked out at the Naples cruise port building. It was interesting to travel on the Naples Metro to the Garibaldi station and we were grateful that we had Natasha at our side to buy our tickets and guide us to the right platform for the comfortable train ride to Ecolano. Natasha provided a wealth of information as she guided us through the ruins of Herculaneum and we gained a good understanding of the buried Roman town. She is very knowledgeable and pointed out many interesting features that we would have missed if we had been on our own. Our return trip to Naples was complicated when the train we were on stopped at a suburban station and was unable to go any further (no explanation given). Once again we were glad to have an experienced local guide as Natasha led us to a nearby bus stop and took us by an alternative route back to the cruise ship. This delay meant that the tour was closer to 5 hours instead of 4 but Natasha was calm, professional and considerate of our comfort. It was a pleasure to meet her!

This was a fantastic trip. Our... -
This was a fantastic trip. Our guide, Giuseppe D'Angel was wonderful. He made it very easy to find him, did all the local train arrangements and gave local explanations while walking to the site. He was a joy. I STRONGLY recommend this trip and even asking for Giuseppe!

Started off bad from the start... -
Started off bad from the start. Guide was not at the appointed spot at the appointed time. Telephone contact numbers for Viator and tour agency were inoperative, without response. Guide showed up about half hour late when we were about to leave. Her knowledge was OK, but I don't think she had a scholastic background in the subject, and her English was marginal. She even smoked on the tour. The site was outstanding, but the guide was disappointing.

We did this as a shore excursion... -
We did this as a shore excursion from our cruise. We were met at the pier by a super nice guide and then proceeded on a very long march around Naples. First to a ticket booth were we got subway tickets, then to a subway stop, on to the train station and then a run through the station to catch a train that was late and not at the station!! Once near Herculaneum we had a nearly one mile downhill walk to the site on uneven sidewalks and lots of traffic! All we could think of was the walk back!!! My husband was so tired by the time we got to the visitors center and looked down at the ruins and all the trudging around he'd have to do that he decided just to wait at the entrance.
I want to stress that our guide was terrific! In no way was this lousy tour his fault, it is set up for extremely young and fit people! The travel time eclipsed the actual time at the ruins. In the end, we had our guide hire us a van taxi to take us back to the port. Not one of us wanted to repeat the long walk uphill, train, subway or walk through mad traffic to get back. BEWARE!

Guide had different meetings... -
Guide had different meetings location at train station that we had from Viator (not her fault). Train from Naples to site was hot and overcrowded and nothing as described in the overview which tells you to "sit back and relax." 5 hour tour ended up being only 2 hours..what a rip off. Do not go!
