Additional Information

This tour merges the notable archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, renowned for the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. You can make use of a convenient transport service by stylish minivan, offering pick-up at Naples’s main station. Once at Pompeii, you’ll be introduced to your guide who will help you explore the site’s key attractions such as the Forum– the city’s central square, along with the principal houses and structures. Enjoy a brief pause before being shuttled comfortably to Herculaneum and initiating your exploration of this archaeological zone, which though smaller than Pompeii, is better conserved: be guided to the beach, the final resting place of over 300 individuals. Conclude your tour with a relaxing drive back to the original meeting point.

  • Infant car seats are available upon request

In-Depth Tour of Both Sites - Our guide Diego has a plethora of knowledge about both Pompei and Herculaneum, which he imparted with enthusiasm and cheerfulness. We saw SO much in both locations, and he made sure we saw both the “popular” sites and numerous other “off the beaten track locations.

Great day trip - We travelled down from Rome and met up with our excellent driver, Giovanni. He took great care of us, making sure we got to the right places on time. Additionally he recommended a superb place for lunch. Our guide, Antonio, was also terrific, pointing out many interesting details at both sites. Pompeii is (relatively) OK but Herculaneum is better. Although a smaller site, it's better preserved and provides a better view of what a Roman town looked like.

Brilliant tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum! - We had an amazing experience visiting the archeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. We booked through Askos Tours and had transport in an air conditioned van from nearby to Naples Central train station Pompeii, Herculaneum and return. The van driver was great and helped us with directions in joining the tour and was very engaging during the brief ride to and from these remarkable sites. Our guide Sergio is an archaeologist and was remarkable for his vast knowledge and great engagement with our tour group. We had an audio ear piece so we could follow Sergio’s commentary throughout. Sergio took us to the key locations in Pompeii and Herculaneum and he provided a rich commentary on the sites and the many pieces of interest including the 2000 year old fast food outlets, the people who perished and the many frescos, marble artefacts, tile entries and the remarkable sculptures, fossilised artefacts and more. Pompeii is vast and Herculaneum smaller by comparison but better preserved - both essential viewing. Askos run remarkable tours of this site thanks to talented, knowledgeable and incredibly enthusiastic people like Sergio. This is a must see for people visiting Naples.

Pompeii and Herculaneum skip the line tickets tour with round-trip train from Rome with guide and private transportation - We had a great experience! The communication from the tour provider before the trip was excellent. All the info and ticket vouchers were sent in a timely manner and included all the details we needed! The tour included the high speed train tickets for Roma-Napoli round trip high speed train, pick up at and return to Naples train station by our excellent driver Francisco in a comfortable mini van with AC, skip the line tickets for both sites, and our guide Vince that gave great explanation of the history of both ruins and of all the interesting scenes and artifacts we saw! Our group was 4 adults of various ages and abilities but we all were thrilled with our experience. We all highly recommend this trip!

Pompei - Our guide Paulo was creative in his instruction & guidance. He obviously was well versed & experienced in the history of Pompeii, but was never boring or pompous.

Excellent tour with a caveat - 5 stars for the tour guide and driver. Luciano, the guide, was an excellent source of knowledge who really brought Pompeii to life, showcasing the best of it. The driver was also great. 1 star for Viator. This tour is not 8 people maximum. The minibus to the ruins is 8 people maximum but the group was 18 people. Luciano did a great job managing this amount of people round the ruins but if you specifically want a smaller guide to tourist ratio, this is not the one for you. This is down to Viator, not the tour group/guide.

Enjoyed both locations, but Herculaneum was our favorite due to significantly more artifacts left intact.. - The ability to get a feel for the culture's daily lifestyle by seeing many of the structures and personal items still intact.

NOT A SMALL GROUP - NOT A SMALL GROUP When advertised as 'Ages 0-99, max of 8 per group" to ' enjoy the personal attention of a small-group experience', one would think there will be 8 or fewer people on this tour. WRONG. There were 20 people with one archeologist. VERY difficult to usher 20 people when showing specific items when only 4-8 people can actually 'see' at a time. Went again to Pompeii the next day with another pre-arranged tour company and there were 12 people on that tour. Better tour with fewer in the group. If you are OK with a medium size group (20 ppl) then you may enjoy this tour. The driver was very good and the archeologist was good. Herculaneum, having fewer overall tourists, was easier to navigate with the group of 20 in the tour.
