- Callander - The Glenfinnan, Glencoe, and Fort William Adventure kicks off in the vibrant heart of Edinburgh city centre. As the journey departs from the bustling streets, travelers will pass iconic landmarks like Edinburgh Castle, setting the stage for an exciting trip north into the breathtaking Scottish Highlands.
A stop for refreshments is made at Callander, known as the gateway to the Highlands.
- Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park - The adventure continues through the scenic Trossachs National Park en route to Glencoe.
- Glencoe - The next destination is the renowned Glencoe! This dramatic glen, featured in films like James Bond’s Skyfall and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, sets the mood for visiting the famous “Harry Potter Bridge” later in the tour. Here, there is an opportunity to take photos and learn about Glencoe’s history, including the 1692 massacre of the MacDonald clan.
- Fort William - From the atmospheric Glencoe, the journey proceeds along the banks of Loch Linnhe to the Highland town of Fort William, located at the base of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis. A stop here allows for a leg stretch and an early lunch before continuing to the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
- Neptune’s Staircase - If time permits, there will be a photo stop at Neptune’s Staircase. This staircase lock, consisting of eight locks on the Caledonian Canal, raises the canal by 19m (62ft). Built in the early 1800s, it is the longest staircase lock in Britain.
- Glenfinnan Viaduct - The Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by its appearance in Harry Potter, is surrounded by mountains on the picturesque shores of Loch Shiel. This location is not only known for the Jacobite Steam Train (distinct from the Hogwarts’ Express), but Loch Shiel was also the site of the “Black Lake.” Keep an eye out for a “grindylow” causing mischief beneath the surface! It’s also the backdrop for Buckbeak’s graceful flight, scenes from the Triwizard Tournament, and the stunning loch where Hogwarts is set.
The tour includes a visit to the viaduct for photos and a stop at the nearby Glenfinnan Monument, which commemorates the significant 1745 Jacobite uprising in Scottish history.
Please note: The Jacobite Steam Train is operated by another company, and the tour cannot always ensure a synchronized meeting with the train.
- Pitlochry - Leaving Glenfinnan, the return journey to Edinburgh begins, passing through the magnificent Cairngorms National Park, with a stop for refreshments at the charming village of Pitlochry*. Enjoy a chance to stretch your legs and grab a quick snack before returning to Edinburgh, where the Glenfinnan, Glencoe, and Fort William Adventure concludes.
*During peak months, the itinerary may be reversed to avoid congestion at attractions and refreshment stops. In reverse, the tour will pass through Pitlochry but stop at an alternative location for refreshments.
