killing fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center

  • 9 miles away south of Phnom Penh. The infamous killing fields have a bloody history. Once an orchard and a
    Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into
    what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years they massacred and
    buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular
    high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned
    there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a
    museum and a reminder of darker days.

Worth It - Very informational tour. Thank you, Sum Cheath, for being an awesome guide and sharing your knowledge with us. Very sad, but needs to be seen when in Phnom Penh. We got to meet survivors as well.

Great tour - Sun Cheath took us on this tour. His knowledge is tremendous and he gave a good insight regarding the situations the country had to survive in the challenging times. Some of the recruits were tiny children, very sad

Great tour - Must do tour if you are in Phnom Penh very sad and moving an important part of the history of Cambodia. Our guide Sum Cheath did at great job explaining everything and was very interesting to listen to and we had opportunities to ask questions and listen to information which you wouldn't be able to do if you went on your own
