• Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - Tuol Sleng is a museum documenting the Cambodian genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. The museum occupies a former secondary school that was used as Security Prison 21 (S21) by the Khmer Rouge. Visiting this museum, along with the nearby Killing Fields, is crucial for understanding the heartbreaking and tragic events that have shaped modern Cambodian society. Tuol Sleng was a site of detention, interrogation, and torture, and its preservation maintains evidence of that recent and tragic period in Cambodia’s history. Visiting the museum encourages global visitors to promote peace.
• Choeung Ek Genocidal Center - The Killing Fields are locations across Cambodia where approximately 1.3 million people were killed and buried by the government under the Khmer Rouge and Prime Minister Pol Pot. These horrific crimes against humanity are known as the Cambodian genocide. The most renowned of these sites is Choeung Ek, a former orchard about 15 km from Phnom Penh, now preserved as a museum for visitors to learn about the tragic events of that time. Choeung Ek is closely linked with the Tuol Sleng detention center.
• Central Market - Central Market (Phsar Thmei) is a notable art deco building shaped like a cross with a stunning central dome. The four wings of the cross are filled with stalls offering gold and silver jewelry, antique coins, imitation name-brand watches, and souvenirs. There are hardware stalls, a wet market, clothing and household items, food outlets, and a vast array of products for sale. This is a popular spot for tourists to browse, find bargains, or purchase gifts and memorabilia to take home.
• Wat Phnom - Wat Phnom is a Buddhist temple built on a tree-covered, man-made hill on the north side of the city. It is a historic and cultural landmark, offering a place of tranquility in the bustling city. The main stupa sits impressively atop the hill and enshrines the ashes of King Ponhea Yat, who arrived in 1434 and founded the city of Phnom Penh. Wat Phnom has become a central attraction in the city for both Khmer and international visitors and is a ‘must-visit’ when in Phnom Penh.

The tour also features in-depth visits to the significant historical sites of the Genocide Museum (S21) and Killing Fields. This tour is ideal for families, groups, and solo travelers, but please be aware that the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields may not be suitable for most children. Additionally, at temples, religious sites, and the Royal Palace, it is required to cover shoulders, backs, and legs above the knee.
