National Museum - The National Museum, a beautiful example of Khmer architecture, contains more than 5,000 art pieces made from bronze, wood, gold, silver, copper, sandstone, and other materials.

Wat Phnom - Walk up to the sacred hill of Phnom Daun Penh, which is also the name of a pagoda and the origin of the capital’s name.

Central Market - The Central Market, constructed in 1937, features a dome with four arms branching out into vast hallways filled with countless stalls. The initial design and layout were created by French architect Louis Chauchon.

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - Tuol Sleng, now a Genocide Museum, was the most secretive part of the Khmer Rouge regime. Also known as S-21 (Security Office 21), it was a premier security camp designed for the interrogation and extermination of anti-Angkor elements.

Angkor Thom South Gate - Explore the South Gate of Angkor Thom, known as Big Angkor, a 3km² walled and moated royal city that was the last capital of the Angkorian Empire.

Bayon Temple - The famous Bayon Temple is an architectural puzzle, partly because it was constructed in a piecemeal fashion over a century.

Terrace of the Elephants - The Terrace of the Elephants is an impressive, 2.5-meter tall, 300-meter long terrace wall adorned with carved elephants. It spans the heart of Angkor Thom in front of Baphuon, a huge temple mountain in the Royal Palace Area and Phimeanakas, an impressive rite and sandstone pyramid.

Terrace of the Leper King - The Terrace of the Leper King is located at the north end of the Terrace of the Elephants. It features a double terrace wall with deeply carved nagas, demons, and other mythological beings.

Angkor Wat - Visit Angkor Wat temple, founded by Suryavarman II, who reigned from 1113 to 1152. He built the five towers in the 12th century to dedicate to the Hindu God Vishnu. The temple’s pyramidal design, combined with its spaces, alleys, and ditches, is an ancient masterpiece of architectural design and construction.

Ta Prohm - Ta Prohm temple is a wonderful combination of human genius and natural beauty, with giant trees that have grown here for centuries.

Prasat Kravan - Prasat Kravan was originally constructed by noblemen rather than a king.

Banteay Kdei - Banteay Kdei was built in sandstone, which has deteriorated quite badly, but some very beautiful lintels and pediments remain.

Srah Srang - Srah Srang is a royal pool that served as the King’s bathing pond, where he washed with his many concubines each day.

Takeo - Takeo, commissioned by King Suryavarman I in the 10th century, was never completed and thus lacks the elaborate decoration of its contemporaries. It is a five-level pyramid dedicated to Shiva.

Thommanon - Thommanon is a small, attractive temple in very good condition, built at the same time as Angkor Wat.

Chau Say Tevoda - Chau Say Tevoda, built during the second quarter of the 12th century opposite Thommanon, was dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu.

Preah Khan - Preah Khan, meaning The Sacred Sword, was built by Jayavarman VII and is famous for its long cruciform corridors and delicate carvings.

Neak Pean - Neak Pean is a delicate highlight of Khmer art. Built by Jayavarman VII, it perfectly represents the heavens on earth.

Ta Som - Ta Som is a small, classic Bayon-style monastic complex with a relatively flat enclosure.

Eastern Mebon - East Mebon, built in the 10th century by Rajendravarman, was situated on a small island in the middle of the Oriental, or Eastern, Baray.

Pre Rup - Pre Rup, built in the 10th century by Rajendravarman, offers a lovely sunset view.

Kbal Spean - Kbal Spean temple features carvings of Buddha and Buddhist images in the rock from a later period than the lingas. Known as the River of a Thousand Lingams, Kbal Spean is an intricately carved riverbed deep in the Cambodian jungle. Lingams, phallic representations sacred to Brahmanism, are carved into the rock along with several carvings of gods and animals above a small waterfall.

Banteay Srei - Banteay Srei, loosely translating to “citadel of the women,” is a modern name likely referring to the delicate beauty of the carvings.

Banteay Samre - Banteay Samre is a large, relatively flat temple displaying distinctively Angkor-style architecture and artistry.

Tonle Sap Lake - Visit the Floating Villages located 10 kilometers south of Siem Reap. Take a ride in a traditional wooden boat on the Tonle Sap, the “Great Lake” of Cambodia and the largest in Asia. Here, you’ll see many examples of the Khmer way of life on the lake.

Wat Bo Temple - Wat Bo, founded in the 18th century, is a highly respected pagoda containing unique wall paintings of the Reamker (Ramayana) from the late 19th century.

Psar Chaa - Old Market - Continue to one of the city’s lively open markets, Psar Chaa, also known as the “Old Market,” where anything and everything is for sale.
