Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul - Completed in 1864, this cathedral was constructed during a time of strong anti-Catholic sentiment in Philadelphia, including the violent Bible Riots, influencing its fortress-like design and high windows.

Shakespeare Memorial - Appropriately located across from the Free Library, the Shakespeare Memorial features a large oval seating area and a striking 14-foot bronze statue of Hamlet, dedicated to the city on Shakespeare’s birthday, April 23, 1929.
