CUSCO – CLOUD FOREST – PARAISO LODGE

Manu National Park - Our journey to the Manu Reserved Zone begins with an early departure from Cusco at 5 am in a comfortable bus. We ascend to the high mountain region of Paucartambo, stopping along the way to visit the ancient funeral towers, or chullpas, of Ninamarca. The bus then descends through the enchanting cloud forest, teeming with beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. We pause to witness the mating ritual of the Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola Peruvian). There are also opportunities to spot the Amazonian Umbrella bird (Cephalopteros Ornatus), Trogons (Trogon sp.), monkeys, and with some luck, the Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the only bear species in South America. In the afternoon, we arrive at our traditional lodge, equipped with showers and toilets.

DAY 2: ATALAYA-BOCA MANU – OTORONGO LAKE-CASA MACHIGUENGA-MANU RESERVED AREA.

Manu National Park - This day promises to be the most adventurous, starting at 4:00 am with breakfast, followed by a 30-minute drive to the port of Atalaya and an 8-hour boat ride. The boat journey offers a chance to understand why Manu is renowned for its wildlife. Along the riverbanks, you may observe groups of turtles, White caimans (Caiman cocodrylus), Capybaras (Hidrochaeris hydrochaeris), and possibly a Jaguar (Panthera onca) resting on a log. Upon arriving at Otorongo, an Oxbow Lake, we have the opportunity to see giant otters from the Otorongo observation tower. Later, we explore the trails around the lake with a guide to learn about the tropical rainforest’s functions and secrets. We spend the night camping at Casa Machiguenga, which has showers and toilets. Here, we have a good chance of spotting the jungle’s king, the Jaguar (otorongo). The Casa Matsiguenka is built using indigenous building techniques.

DAY 3: CASA MACHIGUENGA – SALVADOR LAKE – CASA MACHIGUENGA

DAY 4: CASA MACHIGUENGA– BOCA MANU- LODGE.

Manu National Park - The calls of Red Howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus) will wake us up. After a hearty breakfast, we begin our return journey on the Manu River, where we will see various animals such as caimans, peccaries, tapirs, capybaras, and many monkeys. In the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge in Boca Manu. We will take walks in the afternoon and a night walk. We will spend the night at the lodge, which has showers and toilets.

DAY 5: BOCA MANU – SOGA DE ORO LODGE.

Manu National Park - Our expedition continues on the Alto Madre de Dios River for 6 hours. During the boat ride, we have many chances to see more animals along the riverbanks, such as capybaras, monkeys, parrots, and caimans. We can also swim in the river. We will arrive at the Soga de Oro Lodge, with an optional night walk.

DAY 6: SOGA DE ORO ECOLOGICAL RESERVE – CUSCO

Manu National Park - We will leave the lodge early in the morning to reach the port of Atalaya. From there, we will take a van directly to Cusco, passing through the Cloud Forest and the Andes, arriving in Cusco at 6:00 pm.
