Into the Heart of the Amazon

As a biologist and environmental activist, the Amazon has always held a special place in my heart. The opportunity to embark on the Amazon Jungle Expedition was a dream come true. Arriving in Iquitos, I was greeted by Ruth, whose warmth and passion for the jungle were immediately evident. She meticulously walked me through the itinerary, ensuring I was prepared for the adventure that lay ahead.

The journey began with a drive to the village of Nauta, where we boarded a boat that would take us deep into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The boat ride was a sensory feast; the sight of pink river dolphins playfully breaking the water’s surface, the calls of exotic birds echoing through the air, and the lush greenery of the jungle enveloping us. Roger, another guide who joined us, was a true jungle expert. His ability to identify plants and animals by their sounds and tracks was nothing short of remarkable. Under his guidance, we explored hidden streams by canoe, fished for piranhas, and marveled at the sight of giant river otters playing in the water.
