A Journey Through the Sacred Valley

The anticipation of exploring the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu had been building for months. As a biologist and environmental activist, the opportunity to immerse myself in the rich tapestry of Inca culture and the breathtaking landscapes of Peru was a dream come true. The journey began with a visit to the Awanacancha Alpaca farm, where I was introduced to the traditional animals of the Incas: llamas, alpacas, viñuna, and guanaco. Watching the artisans weave and color the wool was a mesmerizing experience, a testament to the harmonious relationship between the people and their environment.

The journey continued to the Sacred Valley Lookout Point, offering panoramic views that seemed to stretch into eternity. Our journey took an unexpected turn when we had to alter our original itinerary due to concerns about the yellow fever vaccine. The Amazon jungle portion of the trip was replaced with a visit to Paracas Island, a change orchestrated with grace and empathy by Pamela from Alpaca Expeditions. However, the real test came when an unexpected train accident threatened to derail our visit to Machu Picchu. In the face of uncertainty, Mr. Saul Palma emerged as a beacon of hope. His calm leadership and determination ensured that we were able to navigate the situation with ease. Arrangements were made for us to stay overnight in Ollantaytambo, and despite the logistical challenges, we were able to reach Machu Picchu the next day. Standing amidst the ancient ruins, surrounded by the majesty of the Andes, was a moment of pure magic, a culmination of resilience and unwavering commitment.
