The Kandy valley, encircled by challenging hills, was the final stronghold of the Sinhalese until the reign of Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. Visitors can explore these remarkable sites in Kandy.

Initially preserved in Kandy in a structure built by Vimmaladarmasurya, the founder of the capital, it was later relocated to a newly constructed building by his successors. The temple is situated above a moat, with a stone staircase leading through a tunnel to the drummers’ courtyard. A two-story building greets visitors, with the upper floor housing the gem-studded gold casket that contains Buddha’s sacred tooth relic.
