Tachog Lhakhang (Tamchu) - Tamchog Lhakhang is a temple dedicated to the 13th-century saint Thangthong Gyalpo, known as the bridge builder. This temple is situated across the river from Paro to Thimphu. To reach the temple, one must cross an iron chain bridge, one of the few remaining bridges built by Thangthong Gyalpo.
This is a private temple, but tourists may visit with permission. Crossing this ancient bridge, with its swaying and undulating movements, is quite an experience. The temple’s location on the ridge, with high rocky barren hills as its backdrop, makes it an excellent spot for photography.
Paro River - The Bhutanese word for river is “chhu,” so Paro Chhu translates to Paro River. The Paro Chhu originates on the southern side of the 24,035 ft Mount Jomolhari, flowing through mountain meadows and deep gorges before entering the Paro Valley and winding through the town of Paro. Just downstream of Paro is an exciting Class III+ section of whitewater with one portage.
Clock Tower Square - Clock Tower Square features a tower with four clock faces located in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. It is a well-known landmark in Thimphu. The square is surrounded by numerous shops, hotels, and restaurants.

Buddha Dordenma - The Buddha Dordenma is situated atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, overlooking the southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy from the 8th century A.D., discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer), and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.
Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten) - The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of the Third Druk Gyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace. The chorten is a large white structure crowned with a golden spire.
Changlimithang Stadium & Archery Ground - Bhutanese people love playing this sport with great vigor, enthusiasm, and celebrations. Archery tournaments in Bhutan are quite unique. Players wear their national dress, make a lot of euphoric sounds, even taunt the opposition for missing targets, and when a target is hit, they perform a slow dance to celebrate the success.
Tashichho Dzong (Thimphu Dzong) - Tashichho Dzong has been the seat of the government since 1952 and currently houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat, and the ministries of home affairs and finance. Other government departments are located in nearby buildings.
Thimphu to Paro
Paro Taktsang - Taktsang Lhakhang is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest.” This temple is one of the most sacred sites in the kingdom and clings dramatically to a sheer cliff face 900 meters above the Paro Valley.
It was first constructed in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated in the 7th century A.D. Legend has it that Guru Rimpoche flew to the site on the back of a tigress and meditated in the cave for 3 years, 3 months, 3 days, and 3 hours to subdue evil demons residing within it. The cave has been considered a sacred site ever since, and many famous saints have traveled to meditate there.
Taktsang Lhakhang is located approximately 10 km north of Paro town at an altitude of 3,120 m. To reach the temple, visitors must trek for about 2-3 hours through beautiful, shady pine forests. No trip to Bhutan would be complete without visiting this remarkable heritage site.

Kyichu Lhakhang - Kyichu Lhakhang is the oldest monastery in Bhutan, located in Paro. It was built in the year 659 AD by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.
