Clock Tower Square - Situated in the heart of Thimphu city, this square features a clock tower surrounded by shops and hotels. While it is a notable spot in Thimphu, visitors might find it underwhelming due to broken pavement stones, large potholes, litter, and ongoing construction. However, there are a few upscale coffee shops for tourists around the square.

Tashichho Dzong (Thimphu Dzong) - Tashichho Dzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress located on the northern edge of Thimphu city in Bhutan, positioned on the western bank of the Wang Chu River.

Buddha Dordenma - The Buddha Dordenma is the largest sitting statue of the Buddha, standing at 51.5 meters tall and crafted from solid bronze. Inside, it houses 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, including 25,000 that are 12 inches tall and 100,000 that are 8 inches tall. Tourists often visit to admire its breathtaking view, as the giant Buddha, despite its size, exudes a calm and reassuring presence.

Motithang Takin Preserve - Located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan, this wildlife reserve is dedicated to the Bhutan takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Initially a mini-zoo, it was transformed into a preserve when it was discovered that the animals did not venture into the surrounding forest even when released.

Thangthong Dewachen Nunnery - This Buddhist monastery, also known as the Zilukha Anim Dratshang, is located in the small Himalayan country of Bhutan. Overlooking Tashichodzong, the nunnery is just a few minutes’ drive from the town.

Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory - This small factory produces traditional Bhutanese paper made from the bark of the daphne bush. Visitors can observe the entire process.

National Library and Archives of Bhutan - Established in 1967, the National Library of Bhutan in Thimphu aims to “preserve and promote the rich cultural and religious heritage” of Bhutan.

Folk Heritage Museum Kawajangsa - Housed in a three-story 19th-century traditional rammed mud and timber house over 150 years old, the museum includes paddy, wheat, and millet fields, a watermill, kitchen gardens, and a hot stone bath. The ground floor resembles a barn, the upper floor serves as a storage area, and the top floor is a living and dining area.

National Memorial Chorten - Also known as the Thimphu Chorten, this stupa is located in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital.

Thimphu to Punakha

Dochula Pass - The Dochu La is a mountain pass in the snow-covered Himalayas within Bhutan, located on the road from Thimphu to Punakha. It features 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens,” built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother.

Chimi Lhakhang Temple - Also known as Chime Lhakhang, this Buddhist monastery in Punakha District, Bhutan, is located near Lobesa. It stands on a round hillock and was founded in 1499 by the Drukpa Kagyu lama Ngawang Chogyal, the 14th abbot of Ralung Monastery.

Punakha Dzong - Known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang, the Punakha Dzong is the administrative center of Punakha District in Bhutan. Constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, the 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures.

Punakha Suspension Bridge - This long metal bridge spans a mountain river and is adorned with colorful Buddhist prayer flags.

Punakha to Paro

Tachog Lhakhang - Also known as Tashog or Tamchhog Lhakhang, this small private temple and traditional suspension bridge are located about 15 km from Paro town on the way to Thimphu. It was built in the 16th century by Tibetan saint Thangton Gampo, also known as Thang Tong Gyalpo.

Rinpung Dzong - Sometimes referred to as Paro Dzong, this large dzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school in Paro District, Bhutan. It houses the district Monastic Body as well as government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag.

National Museum of Bhutan འབྲུག་གི་འགྲེམས་སྟོན་ཁང་། - The National Museum of Bhutan is a cultural museum in Paro, western Bhutan. Established in 1968 in the renovated ancient Ta-dzong building above Rinpung Dzong, it was founded under the command of His Majesty, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third hereditary Monarch of Bhutan.

Paro Taktsang - Paro Taktsang is a sacred Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhist site located on the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. It is one of thirteen Tiger’s Nest caves in historical Tibet where Padmasambhava practiced and taught Vajrayana.

Kyichu Lhakhang - Located north of Paro town, Kyichu Lhakhang is the oldest and one of the most beautiful temples in Bhutan.
