Highlights
  • Paris - 07:30 Departure from Opera Garnier steps or from Your hotel in Paris if option booked, destination Caen by our air conditioned comfortable Mercedes minivan. It takes about 3 hours (240 km) to reach the Memorial of Caen.
  • Memorial de Caen - 10:30 - 12:00 Visit of The Caen Memorial and Museum, located in the British Sword Beach sector. Caen Museum is the best World War II museum in France. You will get an overview of the battle of Normandy as well the sense of the personal lives of the people who took part in it. An excellent 19-minute film documents this battle with original historic footage.
12:00 Departure to Arromanches-les-Bains. It takes about 0,5 hour (30 km) on the national roads crossing beautiful countryside and small villages.
  • Arromanches-les-Bains - 12:30 - 13:30 Stop for Lunch and visit of Arromanches. The way from Caen Memorial to the Arromanches-les-Bains is about 30 km and takes just half an hour. Arromanches is a small seaside town famous for its former artificial Mulberry Harbour. Located in the center of the Gold Beach landing zone it played an invaluable role in the D-Day landings. The Allies built here an artificial temporary harbour for unloading of vehicles, materials, and people. Mulberry Harbour had, by June 12, 1944, helped bring 300,000 men, 54,000 vehicles, and 104,000 tons of supplies to Europe.
  • Arromanches 360 Circular Cinema - 13:30 - 14:30 Visit of the 360 Circular Cinema and view point over the bay of Arromanches. 14:30 Departure to the Normandy American Cemetery & Visitor Center. It is just half an hour drive (20 km).
  • Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer - 15:00 Arrival and Visit of the Normandy American Cemetery & Visitor Center, located in Colleville-sur-Mer and overlooking Omaha Beach. It contains 9,387 U.S. soldiers, most of whom were killed during the Normandy Landings and the Wall of the Missing with the names of 1,557 soldiers missing in action. The cliffs leading down to the beaches contain the remnants of the German defences, including concrete casemates with memorials to the soldiers.
At Normandy American Cemetery you’ll see as well the semicircular memorial colonnade with the sculpture “Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves” and large maps of military operations; and the most beautiful, idyllic spot on Planet Earth.
16:20 Departure to Omaha Beaches. It takes just 10 minutes (5 km).
  • Omaha Beach - 16:30 Arrival at Omaha Beaches. Learn about the huge sacrifice made by the 34 000 men who landed here on D-Day. Omaha Beach is the most popular travellers destination of the D-Day Beaches.
17:00 Departure to Paris. It takes 3,5 hours (290 km). One stop will be made at the rest area.

Private Drive to Normandy - We had a great time visiting Normandy! Our driver Alexander was very nice and dropped us off at each place and let us know how much time we had there. He went into each place, bought our tickets and set us up with audio guides. He was not a guide, but a driver - a very good one! Very comfortable Mercedes and we stopped for a 10 minute rest on the way there and back. Would recommend if you’re a history person looking to see all the sites in Normandy in a very easy and comfortable way.

Excellent tour and education - Valerie provided exceptional education on the drive out to Normandy. Her English is excellent and she encouraged questions and provided thorough answers. We felt we gained immense knowledge and background pre DDay. She also explained through the day later events of the war in detail. Valarie also managed a difficult dynamic through the day, attempting to meet needs of the individual in a professional and kind manner. Would definitely recommend this tour. Roman our driver was also excellent.

Excellent Normandy Beaches Tour - We booked this tour over the others offered by Viator for several reasons - smaller group, private vehicle and extended length of time at several sites. Our guide, Rusty, was fantastic. On-time pickup at our hotel, comfortable Mercedes van (no big bus/big group to track) with scheduled stops, immediate access to sites, with movies where applicable, and a delicious lunch at a beautiful waterfront restaurant. We made two scheduled rest/bathroom stops along the route to/from Paris. Take this tour; it is worth the money for the reasons explained above.

A lot was seen in a short period of time. - We enjoyed seeing the movie at the Caen Museum which told the whole story for the war. Our driver was helpful and very respectful. We enjoyed the day and were glad we took the opportunity to take this tour.

Sobering! - Despite the rain, which really did set the stage for what we were about to experience, we had a very good day. Our very personable driver/guide, Rusty, was very knowledgeable about the events that took place during those sobering times. Lunch was provided at a very nice French restaurant in the quaint costal village of Arromanches(up to 25e each) with ample free time afterwards. It was a very long day, pickup at hotel at 7:30am and back around 9pm, but a very comfortable minivan ride. The tour company was very quick and easy to communicate with when I had questions about pickup at out hotel. I would highly recommend using them!

Excellent tour - Our tour guide was very friendly and helpful. It made for a very long day with the drive from Paris and back, but was wonderful to see so many sites on the Normandy coast in one day. I did not realize how much was there and wish we could have had more time at each site.

Not the best - 1st I will say that Normandy requires 2 days instead of the 1 day we had. The pickup and return were very good (despite the long traffic delay on return.) A good guide makes or breaks a tour, and while our guide was very sweet, her command of English was not acceptable for this tour. She was a little hard to hear and understand and her knowledge of the history was borderline. If you like history and want to do justice to Normandy, then this tour is not for you.
