SO worth it!! - First thing you need to know is how great and worth the money the tour was. Prior to our trip, we were sent a survey to fill out of what we were interested in experiencing on our tour. (Local cuisine, historic buildings, photo spots ect.) They also ask where you would like your guide to meet you. We chose local cuisine and to meet in the lobby of our hotel. Our guide was Bibiana, she arrived early and even though we were tired from our travels, her enthusiasm gave us life. She took us to an incredible local market and In the end, it felt like we had traveled Paris with a friend. If that wasn’t enough, we mentioned the next day was my birthday and where we had reservations. Bibiana Called the restaurant in advance and told them it was my birthday. At the end of our meal the waiters all came and sang Happy Birthday. I can’t say enough about this tour. Your booking also gives you (I think) 80 euros towards food ect. So it is more than worth the expense! Highly recommend for your first day in Paris!!

Not what I expected! - Not like any food tour we have ever done. Instead of walking and talking and then stopping in at various shops to sample treats, our guide walked us around and bought treats and put them in a bag for us. We went into a tea shop and she bought a tin of loose tea leaves for us to take home. We never actually tasted any tea. We walked by several restaurants which she pointed out were wonderful but never went inside. I would have loved to try “the world’s best” falafel! We got chocolates, sweets, and finally sat down at one place for a glass of wine. Not a wine shop with an explanation of wine, just a glass on a patio. The description of the tour said we would see Place de Voges and Victor Hugo’s home. We saw none of that. Disappointing.

Do it on your own - Be prepared to walk and stand around for over three hours continuously Group was too large, making it sometimes hard to hear guide , who was good Food sampling is skimpy Some visits don’t even include food Would not recommend

Don’t book this tour ! RIP OFF - I booked this tour and was charged over 250..00 US . This was high way robbery and was advised by the guide that she was only allowed to spend 40.00 Euro . You can barley pay for two drinks and maybe a small piece of cheese . The guide was a sweet girl but embarrassed by the first point of meeting. I felt bad for her and suggested we just go and have a simple dinner which I ended up paying because the whole experience was ridiculous. The tour guide was a wonderful person but she knew the tour wasn’t worth a dime. She wasn’t informed about the amount of money until after the booking !!. THIS TOUR SHOULD BE CLOSED AND NOT OFFERED. It’s was a steal

Don’t do!! - I am always hesitant to leave a bad review because it impacts someone’s livelihood, but this tour was terrible. The guide took us to places to eat and asked us what we wanted ( we don’t know - we don’t live here!) and barely explained anything about the food or history. Our tour the day before about Montmort and Marais was wonderful. We could have walked around with a guide book and done a much better job.

Worst Food Tour experience we've ever had - I hate writing bad reviews, but I don't want anyone to have the same experience that we did. We even sent this letter to City Unscripted when we returned. Basically it was complete false advertising. They said they would look into it, then they said the same thing again, and it's been 3 weeks total and just crickets. So, here is my review...... Every time we travel we go on food tours. We’ve been on countless, some wonderful, some just ok, but we have to say the food tour we did on Sunday May 15th, in Le Marais, Paris has by far been the worst food tour experience we’ve ever had and waste of our money and time. We did the tour on our first day in Paris, Sunday at 10am and one of the first things we were told by our guide when we met was that nothing is open because it was too early and many places to get food won’t even open up because it was a Sunday. This was so confusing and upsetting. Why would a tour even be offered if that were the case. Why wouldn’t City Unscripted or our guide (who we had communicated with us prior to the trip) tell us that beforehand to give us the knowledge and opportunity to change it? If we had known that a majority of the eateries wouldn't be available that day, or even if they wouldn't be available at that time, then we would have chosen another day or at least a later time in the day. After nearly an hour into the tour, we hadn’t eaten anything, mostly because nothing was available. Finally we told our guide that we were starving. When he finally did take us to get something, we went to Aux Merveilleux de Fred, our guide told us nothing about what it was we were eating. All we knew is it was a pastry. Coincidentally, we took a private food tour with another company later in the week in Montmartre and went to the same patisserie, Aux Merveilleux de Fred in a different location. Our guide got us the same pastry but she told us all about the history of it, the history of the patisserie and how the pastry and the store got its name. We also had some brioche there which she said she thought was the best in the city. The rest of the time with our City Unscripted guide was so disappointing. 2 hours into the tour we had only had two tastings. The second tasting only happened because we, once again, had to insist that we eat something (we’d only gotten a small pastry for the first tasting). We spent time walking to 3 different places that when we got there found out they were closed. Then spent more time walking around looking for places that were actually open. When we found a Jewish bakery that was open he just asked what did we want. We didn’t know what any of it was and it seemed neither did he. Again, it was a place he had never been before and it seemed we went purely because it was open. He found a place that had a charcuterie plate, that he had never even eaten at before. We asked what kind of cheeses we were eating and he didn’t know. We expect when we go on a food tour, especially an expensive private one, the places have been vetted and the guide had been there before. At a few points during the tour he asked us which direction we wanted to go. He also did that once right at the beginning. How are we supposed to know? It was our first day, we knew nothing about that area. That’s why we hired a guide. The "Tres deliciux food experience in charming La Marais” advertised "saucisson Rosette to crepe sucree", neither of which we had. The tour said we would "meander at a 400 year old Marche des Enfants Rouges, the oldest covered market in Paris". We did not. It said we would sample galettes. We did not. It was advertised we would go into "Edwart Chocolatier Marais" We did not. It said we would go to Cafe Berry. We did not. We didn’t even get the famous falafel place, L'As du Falafel, that we were excited about, despite it being listed on the tour. By the end of the tour we ended up having 4 pastries, a charcuterie and a coffee. Basically we did nothing that was advertised. We do not feel like we got our money's worth at all. The tour was a waste of time as we could have walked in any of those places and chosen something we didn’t know about. We did learn some history of Le Marais and its architecture, but again, we had paid for more than that. We had paid for a food tour which would take us to the specific places mentioned on the website. In the future please make sure you do not offer food tours that early on a Sunday. Perhaps if the tour started later at least we would have gotten better food. But we’d also hoped for a guide that would have also known more about the food we were eating. Because of all this we will not be recommending City Unscripted to others and we will be sharing this review. ----------------------- There you have it. Perhaps their other tours are better, but also the fact that have done nothing to remedy this experience is surprising. Also, note that yes, here on the Trip Advisor info it says "IMPORTANT: As this is a private and personalised experience, the places you visit may differ from those listed and these will be chosen by your host based on your interests and preferences". That was not on their website when we booked this.
