Additional Information

This is a private exploration of the vestiges of ‘ancient Paris’ - the metropolis as it was during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, dotted with concealed castles, stately renaissance estates & Baroque homes, medieval wooden structures, secluded courtyards tucked behind carriage entrances, delightful squares & public water features.

Delve into the city’s past, its diverse architectural and cultural heritage, through thoroughly researched narratives prepared by a historian. Understand how the city underwent a revolution (1853-1870) from a densely populated labyrinth of medieval lanes to a contemporary urban landscape with wide boulevards, civic spaces & parks, trees….and the world’s inaugural infrastructure of gas illumination.

You will also experientially comprehend the distinctions between Gothic and Baroque architectural & artistic styles. By exploring the estates & ecclesiastical structures of the Marais, we will witness the shift from Medieval Gothic to Renaissance Baroque architecture and uncover the vibrant history (and current status) of this picturesque and fashionable district.

We extend a warm welcome to business and educational groups.

Fantastic Tour - Loved our tour. Ellen was extremely knowledgeable, full of interesting anecdotes and took us to hidden treasures that we would never have found on our own. She brings her tablet so you can see historic pictures that highlights the profound changes that have happened in Paris. We loved the cheese tasting! Ellen is a real treasure, very generous with her time and by the end we felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend and not a tour guide.

Paris details you wouldn't see otherwise - Ellen was excellent. Knows her stuff on history, architecture and culture. Tour focussed on the Marais after an overview about Hausman. She pointed out buildings and details one would miss or not appreciate. Just the tour that I needed.
