A Dive into the Unknown

The allure of the ocean has always been a siren call for me, and the opportunity to explore the depths of Paphos was one I couldn’t resist. As a marine biologist, my fascination with the underwater world is both professional and personal. Upon arrival at the Cydive center, I was greeted by the warm smiles of the team, instantly putting me at ease. Discovering the Roman Wall

The real magic began as we made our way to the Roman Wall, a short walk from the dive center. This site, rich with history and marine life, was the perfect introduction to open water diving. As we descended, the world above faded away, replaced by the serene beauty of the underwater landscape. The visibility was excellent, allowing us to fully appreciate the ancient Roman amphorae and lost anchors that lay scattered on the ocean floor.

The marine life was abundant, with schools of small fish darting around us, and the occasional octopus peeking out from its hiding spot. The highlight, however, was the chance encounter with a green sea turtle, gracefully gliding through the water. It was a moment of pure wonder, reminding me of the delicate balance of life beneath the waves.

Beyond the Basics

The experience was so captivating that I found myself eager for more. The following week, I joined a boat dive to St. George’s Island and the Blue Lagoon. The small group size allowed for a personalized experience, and having Mic as our instructor once again was a delight. The dives were nothing short of spectacular, with vibrant coral formations and a plethora of marine species.

The Blue Lagoon, in particular, lived up to its reputation. The water was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, and the snorkeling session revealed a hidden world of colorful fish and intricate underwater landscapes. The day was rounded off with a delicious lunch on board, surrounded by the camaraderie of fellow divers.
