Additional Information

The best place to experience The Panama Canal is in the former U.S. Canal Zone town of Gamboa, where The Chagres River meets Gatun Lake in Soberania National Park. Here you will enjoy one of the most famous wildlife viewing and bird watching trails in the world, The Pipeline Road, where the world record for the most bird species seen in a 24 hour period was set 11 years in a row.

This private tour consists of a hike through the tropical rainforest with a knowledgeable guide, and among capuchin and howler monkeys, toucans and sloths, you will learn about Panama’s history and culture.
But better than this, you will also cruise on an outboard engine boat next to ships that transit through the isthmus. You’ll experience the ecology and history behind The Panama Canal and Gatun lake. We’ll cruise the side channels of the canal, around isles where we’re likely to see more monkeys, crocodiles and exotic birds.

Excellent half day nature tour - I did this private tour with my husband. We really enjoyed our experience. We started early, but being one of the first boats on the lake was worth it. We were able to see several animals, including all 3 species of monkey living on the islands, many different bird species, crocodiles, turtles, and an iguana. We had breakfast after the boat ride, which was simple, delicious Panamanian food and very good coffee. Then we went on our nature walk and spotted a very rare porcupine, sloth, agoutis, birds, leaf cutter ants, and army ants, as well as a wide variety of plants. The trail was rocky but flat and took about 30-40 minutes to go about 1.3 miles. Our guide, Paola, was very knowledgeable and fun and gave us a lot of excellent information about the plants, animals, and Panama history, including a lot of facts about the Panama canal. They were so kind, accommodating, and professional, and picked us up right on time. They were responsive to our emails. We would 100% recommend this tour for an excellent half day trip to appreciate the beautiful nature Panama has to offer!

Amazing! - This tour was amazing. John is a fantastic tour guide and really knows what he is talking about. This is a great chance to see the canal and its surrounding nature both by foot and by boat. This is a must-do tour if you are visiting Panama for the first time.
