Additional Information

During colonial times, the Chagres River served as an important transit channel connecting the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea. It was frequented by Spanish colonists, pirates, and treasure seekers who navigated its waters, transferring immense wealth from one corner to another. Many, however, never reached their desired destinations, their tales buried within these jungle-surrounded waters. Over time, this river became an integral part of a modern marvel, namely the Panama Canal.

Panama Outdoors cordially invites you to partake in a kayak journey across this historic river. We’ll revel in our guide’s enlightening narration of how this river played a crucial role in facilitating commerce between the two oceans.

We’ll take a detour to an Embera community, here we will partake in their traditions with a meal amongst them and experiencing their unique customs such as dance, music, and handcrafts while they share their community’s story.
